The world of 'Little Women' came to life at Southbank Theatre over the weekend, as our Senior Years cast delivered three sold-out performances that had audiences laughing, crying and completely captivated.

From the cast on stage to the many students and staff working behind the scenes, this production was a true celebration of creative collaboration and dedication.

We are so proud of our talented Grammarians and grateful to Cherie Hozynka School Production Coordinator, teaching staff and the MGS students involved for helping bring this beautiful story to life. ✨

On 3 June, students at our Merton Hall Campus enjoyed a casual dress day and participated in fundraising initiatives to support of the Class of 2026's chosen charity, One Girl. One Girl is a grassroots not-for-profit organisation dedicated to breaking down the financial, cultural and social barriers that prevent girls and young women from accessing their right to education, one girl at a time.

Over $4,000 was raised on the day! Well done to our SEC for organising and thanks everyone for your donations!

The first event of the Domain Cup tournament was a success, with the highly anticipated Domains Got Talent featuring MGGS vs MGS. Hosted by Melbourne Girls Grammar, the crowd was amazing as five acts from each school took to the stage.

Well done to the Year 12 Grammarians for their leadership in bringing the event together. MGGS came home with the victory, with the next events in the series being Domain Debating and Domain Netball later in the Term 3 🏆.

The MGGS Community is so proud to see Professor Katie Allen (Stephens, 1983) posthumously appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for service to paediatric allergy and gastroenterology research, and for her service to people and federal parliament as the member for Higgins.

Katie Allen was an esteemed alumna, former Chair of the School Council, and President of the Merton Hall Foundation. Her passing late last year drew an outpouring of grief from the wider community, and the School continues to honour her lasting legacy. One of the ways she is remembered at MGGS is through the ‘Professor Katie Allen AO Oration Prize’ awarded to a Year 9 or 10 student each year, with the winner’s address delivered on Speech Night.

Congratulations to MGGS teacher of Philosophy and English Lenny Robinson on receiving the 2026 UQP Quentin Bryce Award for her debut novel And in the Morning.

The award, which recognises former governor-general Dame Quentin Bryce, is for a book on UQP’s list that celebrates women’s lives and/or promotes gender equality. And in the Morning is a novel about war and the ways in which its tragedies, both great and small, transform the intimate lives of the mothers, wives and lovers who must live with its consequences. It’s available to pre-order online.

We are so proud of Lenny for this accomplishment and all that she brings to our Grammarians. Read more about Lenny in this past article of Information Exchange https://ie.mggs.vic.edu.au/a/09-sy-interview-dr-robinson-issue-2-2025

We are delighted to share that acclaimed Australian artist, David Booth, is visiting Morris Hall as an Artist in Residence and working on a creative project with our Year 1 and 2 students.

During his first visit this week, students had the exciting opportunity to work alongside David as he guided them in creating drawings inspired by Australian animals, the nearby Yarra River waterways, and native flora found in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. Through this hands-on experience, students are exploring drawing skills, observation, imagination and storytelling through art.

David will return to Morris Hall next week to transform the students’ drawings into a collaborative mural, using their ideas and sketches as inspiration. This exciting project will leave a lasting visual legacy in our school, celebrating both student creativity and our local environment.

David, who also works under the pseudonym Ghostpatrol, is a Hobart-born, Naarm-based artist whose practice spans studio works, site-specific installations, commissioned murals, and commercial design. His work has been exhibited at and acquired by major institutions including the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Museum, and the Parliament House Art Collection.

Last Friday, we had the pleasure to host the 60 Year Reunion for the Class of 1966 in the Phelia Grimwade Drawing Room.

Our Old Grammarians shared wonderful stories and memories from their time at MGGS, brought to life through a special slideshow of their class photos, a highlight that sparked plenty of excitement and nostalgia. The group was also warmly welcomed by Principal Dr Toni E. Meath and our two “Principals for a Day”, Year 7 students, Karina and Catie, who shared insights into their MGGS journey from ELC, Junior and Middle Years.

A standout moment was the lively conversation about the many badges proudly worn on Karina and Catie's blazers, a lovely connection between past and present.

Year 1 had a fantastic time during their Minibeast Incursion last week at Morris Hall, exploring the fascinating world of insects and other tiny creatures. Students learnt about exoskeletons, habitats and diets. The highlight was getting hands-on with microscopes, giving students the opportunity to take a closer look at a variety of minibeasts and discover their unique features up close. 🐞🔍🦋
