You may recall back in July we posted about the proposed demolition of Robin Boyd's Bruck Mills Caretaker's Quarters in Wangaratta. We, along with many other concerned locals, submitted an objection to the Council.
During the week, Robin Boyd Foundation Chair, Tony Isaacson, attended and spoke at a Council meeting to debate the topic. It's expected that councillors will be asked to decide on the permit application at the 16 December meeting.
We are calling on you to lodge questions and objections to Council, which is recommending the demolition and granting of the permit by Tuesday 16 December, 10 am, to [email protected] or in person.
The 3 pm Rural City of Wangaratta agenda states: "This report is presented to Council to make a determination of whether to grant a planning permit for the demolition of an existing dwelling (caretaker’s residence), buildings and works for the construction of seven dwellings, reduction of car parking requirements and subdivision of land into two lots at 15A Bruck Court, Wangaratta.
The subject site is located within the General Residential Zone – Schedule 1 and is affected by the Heritage Overlay (HO2).
A detailed officer’s assessment of the application is included at Attachment 1. Based on the attached officer’s assessment, it is recommended that a Notice of Decision to Grant a Planning Permit be issued as the proposal represents an orderly planning outcome subject to conditions.
The copy of the application material is also included at Attachment 2.
A copy of the heritage citation for the HO2 is included at Attachment 3.
Recommendation:
That Council:
1. Issue a Notice of Decision to Grant a Planning Permit for the demolition of an existing dwelling (caretaker’s residence), buildings and works for the construction of seven dwellings, reduction of car parking requirements and subdivision of land into two lots at 15A Bruck Court Wangaratta, subject to the conditions outlined at Attachment 1."

Please join us in congratulating RBF research and collections head volunteer Kerry Landman on being awarded the prestigious Martin Hallett Award for individual contribution to community heritage as part of last night's AMaGA Awards!
"The judges commended Kerry on her Victoria Collections cataloguing practices. Since 2014, Kerry has led the volunteer team to create the digital Walsh Street Archive that has been preserved and made available to all. Her leadership has been in planning, technical implementation, and managing and coordinating a team of over forty volunteers. She has demonstrated the value of Victorian Collections to small cultural institutions as a tool for expanding public access and exposure to their holdings. Thanks to Kerry, the foundation's digital archive will enable new academic and public research for years to come."
The AMaGA Awards are conducted annually to highlight outstanding achievements in the Victorian museum, gallery, and collecting sector. This special event raises awareness of museums and galleries as effective vehicles for engaging ideas and communities, rewards and encourages best practice by individuals and organisations, and recognises the value of museums and galleries within the community.
We are thrilled to see Kerry's ongoing dedication and significant contribution to the foundation and the Walsh Street Archive recognised by the AMaGA. Congratulations Kerry!
