A welcoming space for families to connect, play and grow
Arakoon Kids Playgroup is a supported playgroup, run by qualified early childhood educators, and designed to offer a safe, inclusive environment for families with young children. You are warmly invited to join us, no matter your background or circumstances.
Children aged 0–5 can enjoy a variety of engaging, play-based activities while adults connect with others in the community. It is a relaxed, friendly space where everyone is welcome.
👣 Where: Old South West Rocks Scout Hall, Short Street (opposite the tennis courts)
📅 When: Wednesdays and Thursdays during school terms
⏰ Time: between 9:30 am – 11.30 am
We will provide activities, stories and music, light snacks for families, and from time to time, local support services will drop in for informal chats and connection.

A Message to Families on Our Waiting List
We understand that waiting for a preschool placement can be an anxious time for families, and we want to thank you sincerely for your patience and trust in South West Rocks Preschool.
There is currently a very high demand for places at our service, and we are now processing enrolments for 2026. We know how important early education is, and we are working thoughtfully to allocate places in a way that is fair, transparent, and aligned with our values of equity and inclusion.
As part of this process, we are required to follow the NSW Department of Education’s Priority of Access guidelines, which help ensure that children with the greatest need are given priority. These guidelines are the first step in our enrolment decisions.
After these priorities have been applied, we also consider other factors that support a balanced and inclusive learning environment. It is important to note that the length of time a child has been on the waiting list is the final criterion used, once all other considerations have been addressed.
We know this may be disappointing for some families, and we want to assure you that every application is reviewed with care and respect. If your child has been placed on our waiting list, please know that we will continue to keep you informed and are always happy to answer any questions you may have.

"Attention Whales families attending school next year. If your child is enrolling at South West Rocks Public School next year, the school is asking for you to complete your online enrolment as soon as possible. All enrolments must be completed before the Term 4 orientation sessions in order for your child to attend these. Once enrolments are complete, Mrs Chow, the School Principal, will be in touch with each family to arrange a school tour and enrolment interview, most likely happening in Term 3.

The online enrolment portal is very easy to navigate and you can save as you go, if you are unable to complete it all at one time. Start it now using this link:

SWR Pre-School Operations Reminder

We are closely monitoring the ongoing weather situation following the forecast cyclone and flooding. As of now, pre-school is planned to be open tomorrow.

However, we are asking families to please keep children at home wherever possible. This will help us manage the challenges posed by travel disruptions impacting our staff, while maintaining the required staff-to-child ratios.

For any changes to operations, please continue to check updates on Facebook and OWNA. If your child will not be attending, ensure they are marked absent on OWNA or contact us directly. It is critical we are informed in advance.

Exciting News for South West Rocks Pre School Families and Community!
We are thrilled to announce that SWR Pre School has been successful in becoming the Crown land Manager of the SWR Scout Hall, located just around the corner opposite the tennis courts.
We plan to substantially renovate this property to create an additional room for our existing pre-school service, which will provide places for many more children. We have preliminary plans for this renovation, which are now on display at the pre-school. Families are warmly invited to view these plans and offer any suggestions or comments.

We hope this to be a fitting legacy for the South West Rocks Scout and Girl Guides Groups which have wound up their operations and have kindly supported this project. This is a very exciting development, and we look forward to your input and support as we work to enhance our facilities for the benefit of our children.
