Some great news for fishing enthusiasts.
We've just finished deploying 16 purpose-built reef modules, north of Observatory Point inside Port Phillip Heads, that will provide another great summer fishing opportunity and more homes for sea life.
The reef was funded by the State Government’s $35 million Go Fishing Victoria plan to get more people fishing, more often.
The modules will attract pelagic fish, particularly kingfish, across four clusters, all within 50 to 100 metres of one another.
Each module is four metres wide at the base and five metres high, in an open pyramid design.
The location of the reef allows boat fishers to target ‘kingies’ outside potentially dangerous shipping channels and the turbulent waters of The Rip at the entrance to the bay.
This reef completes the delivery of the government’s $2.5 million commitment to create more fish habitat in Port Phillip, complementing rocky reefs installed in Corio Bay and shellfish reefs at several locations in 2021.
With more habitat, the removal of commercial netting in the bay and free public boat ramps, there's never been a better time to wet a line in our beloved bay.
Below are the coordinates for the centre of each cluster.

Life jackets save lives people!
This lifejacket isn’t much use stashed in a jet ski compartment and gathering water.
Lifejackets must be worn when riding. Not only is it a legal requirement in Victoria, it can’t save your life if it’s not on you, in good condition and fitted correctly.
Lifejackets are mandatory for jet skiers and kayakers. Check the rules with our lifejacket selector: https://wearalifejacket.transportsafety.vic.gov.au
