It’s Book Week, and while many schools and early learning settings mark the event by inviting children to dress up as a beloved character, it’s all about nurturing a love for literature. Whether it’s curling up together with a treasured favourite, scheduling a trip to the local library, or making time to squeeze in a few extra pages at bedtime, there are so many ways to make “book time” a regular time to connect with your child. Try asking
• Would you like to choose a book you know, or a new book?
• Would you like a made-up story or a book about facts?
• What is his/her face telling us?
• What do you think is going to happen next?
• Who was your favourite character? What did you like about them?
• If you wanted to change the ending of the book to something different, what could have happened instead?
