Next Friday, our school will be celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
This celebration, among others to come, is part of our school’s ongoing commitment to the Department of Education’s Multicultural Plan 2021–2025, which encourages all schools to celebrate and respect the many cultures that make up our community. Diwali is part of the Department of Education’s calendar of important events for 2025, recognising the value of learning about and appreciating the diverse traditions that bring us together.
Our Diwali celebration at Baler PS is not a religious observance, rather a cultural learning experience where students will explore stories, art, music and traditions that highlight the values of hope, kindness, family, friendship and community.
We’re excited to share that this is just the beginning of many cultural celebrations we’ll be recognising in the coming years, including events such as Eid, Chinese New Year, Matariki, NAIDOC Week and Christmas. Through these experiences, we hope to nurture empathy, curiosity and appreciation for the rich diversity around us.
At Baler PS, we absolutely respect families’ right to make informed choices that align with their beliefs and if you would prefer that your child/ren not participate in this activity, please let us know and we’ll arrange an alternative learning experience for them.
We look forward to a bright and joyful celebration of learning and culture together!
