Somerville House is a school of the Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association. The PMSA is a mission of the Presbyterian and Uniting Churches.

Founded in 1899, Somerville House is an independent Girls' School (Prep to Year 12) with a co-ed Pre-Prep Program, offering both Boarding and Day School options. Located in South Brisbane, an inner-city suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Established in 1899 as The Brisbane High School for Girls, the School was eventually named after the British scientific writer, Mary Somerville (1780–1872). What a special morning at SOEL! 💚

Our Prep classes enjoyed celebrating Father's Day with the fathers and special people in their lives through marshmallow toasting, den building, blindfolded sensory walks, games and a picnic morning tea. Despite a rainy start, the sunshine arrived, bringing with it plenty of smiles and heartwarming moments.

It was hard to tell who enjoyed it more, the dads or the students! Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a special morning at SomerFields. 💚

A tremendous effort from our Junior School athletes at the 2026 Andrews Cup Athletics Championships!

Competing with determination and outstanding team spirit, Somerville House finished 3rd overall. Our students also claimed the 10 Years age championship, placed 2nd in the 9 Years division, 3rd in the 12 Years and Over division, and secured 3rd place in the prestigious Sue Pavish Cup Open 4 x 100m Circular Relay.

Congratulations to all competitors, coaches and supporters on an exceptional achievement. 💚

Somerville House is proud to congratulate School Vice Captain, Francesca, on receiving a 2026 Secondary Schools Citizenship Award from The Order of Australia Association.

Selected as one of only 13 students across Queensland, this prestigious award recognises outstanding service to school and community, leadership, character and citizenship. The award will be presented at an upcoming ceremony at Parliament House by Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland.

We are incredibly proud of this well-deserved recognition and of the positive impact Francesca continues to make within our school and the community. 💚

A Symphony of Stories came to life at the Junior School Book Week Parade this morning! There was excitement from the very first note as students danced their way down the catwalk, proudly sharing their favourite stories, dressed as beloved literary characters.

From timeless classics to modern favourites, the creativity, imagination and joy of reading were on full display. A special thank you to our wonderful Junior School staff who, as always, embraced the spirit of the event with fantastic costumes and enthusiasm. What a wonderful celebration of books, storytelling and the magic that happens when stories are brought to life. 💚📚

Available to students commencing Year 11 in 2027, these scholarships provide access to an internationally recognised education through the IB Diploma Programme at Somerville House. 🎓 Congratulations to our Year 12 Diploma of Business graduates!

Yesterday, we celebrated a significant milestone as our Year 12 students were awarded their Diploma of Business through Axial Training, recognising two years of dedication, determination and hard work.
