A fantastic result at the Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association Cross Country, with our student athletes showing outstanding courage and determination, securing an impressive 5th place overall, our best aggregate finish in many years, along with 3rd in the Percentage Trophy.
In challenging conditions, 51 of our 72 competitors achieved personal season bests, an incredible effort and a testament to their hard work.
Congratulations to every student on a remarkable performance.π

Four Year 11 Legal Studies students recently stepped into the role of MPs for a day at the Queensland Parliament 2026 Legal Studies Youth Parliament.
From delivering speeches in the Chamber to debating important issues, our students demonstrated confidence, teamwork and a genuine passion for making a difference. Charli M and Leila M presented well-reasoned, articulate speeches on freedom of speech and mental health, while Matilda R worked within the Press Gallery, conducting interviews with Youth Members of Parliament. Sierra C supported the team as a dedicated photographer and cheerleader.
We are incredibly proud of the way each student represented Somerville House and contributed their ideas for the future of their communities. π

We were delighted to welcome Australian actor Brenton Thwaites to Somerville House for a special lunchtime presentation last week.
Known for his roles in The Giver, Pirates of the Caribbean, Maleficent, and the upcoming Paramount+ series Two Years Later, Brenton captivated students as he shared insights into his career and experiences in the film industry.
The Chambers Room was filled to capacity with excited students eager to hear from him. For our Year 8 English students, who are currently studying The Giver, the visit was particularly meaningful, with the opportunity to hear firsthand about the film and ask thoughtful questions.
We extend our sincere thanks to Brenton for his time and generosity with our students and look forward to watching him in Two Years Later when it premieres on Paramount+ tomorrow, 4 June. π

Making a difference, one sandwich at a time! π₯ͺ More than 60 Somerville House and St Laurence's College - official students came together last week for our second Eat Up Australia event of the year, surpassing their goal of 1,800 and preparing an incredible 1,890 sandwiches for students who may otherwise go without lunch.
These sandwiches were delivered the very next day to schools across the wider Brisbane area, providing a simple but meaningful form of support for children in need.
Thank you to all involved for your time, teamwork and compassion in making a real difference. π
