What if resetting your life also meant making more room for joy?

We often think a reset means fixing what's not working.

Getting organised.

Catching up.

Being more productive.

Getting back on track.

But what if your reset could also be about asking:

What makes me feel good?
What gives me energy?
What makes me smile?
What do I want more of in my life?

Because joy doesn't have to be earned once everything else is done.

It can be part of the reset.

Maybe it's the first sip of coffee in the morning.

Fresh sheets.

A sunrise.

A walk in the sunshine.

Laughing until your stomach hurts.

Moving your body in a way that feels good.

Or simply having a little time where nobody needs anything from you.

These simple moments matter.

And when life has become a little too full, sometimes we need to pause long enough to remember what actually makes us feel alive, connected and like ourselves again.

That's what Reset & Rise is about.

A chance to step out of the cycle of stress and overwhelm.

To pause.

To breathe.

To move.

To reflect.

To reconnect with yourself.

And to explore what you might need to change - not just to survive your busy life, but to create one that has more space for you, your wellbeing and your joy.

RESET & RISE
Yoga Masterclass for Stress & Overwhelm
Sunday 20 September | 11am
Stretch Yoga, Holland Park

Come as you are.

Leave with a little more space to breathe, a little more clarity about what you need, and perhaps a renewed sense of what makes life feel good.

Because sometimes a reset isn't about doing more.

It's about making room for more of what matters.

Where might you find a little joy this week?

Sometimes joy is found in the simplest things…

Fresh sheets.
A beautiful sunrise.
A quiet cup of coffee.
A walk in the sunshine.
A few moments where you can simply breathe.

And sometimes, joy comes from moving your body, stepping away from the busyness of life and sharing a little time with others.

If yoga is one of those simple pleasures for you - or perhaps something you've been meaning to try - here are a few opportunities to roll out your mat with me this week:

🧘‍♀️ Wednesday | 5:45am
Yoga via Zoom - start your day from home

🌅 Friday | 6:00am
Outdoor Yoga | Hardcastle Park, Hawthorne

🌿 Saturday | 7:00am
Outdoor Yoga | Hardcastle Park, Hawthorne

🌿 Saturday | 8:00am
Outdoor Yoga | Hardcastle Park, Hawthorne

These aren't about doing yoga perfectly.

They're about giving yourself 45 minutes to breathe, move, connect and perhaps discover one of those little moments that makes you think… “Ahhh… this feels good.”

If you've never joined me before, you're very welcome.

Come as you are.

And if yoga isn't your thing, that's okay too - what is one simple thing you're looking forward to this week?

I'd love to hear it.

What brings you joy?

Not the big, once-in-a-lifetime moments.

The little things.

The simple pleasures that make you pause and think… ahhh, this feels good.

For me, it’s:

✨ Clean sheets - there’s something so lovely about climbing into freshly washed sheets

🌅 Watching the sunrise and remembering that every day offers a fresh beginning.

🌈 Seeing a rainbow when I least expect it.

☕ That first sip of coffee in the morning.

🌿 A quiet walk when the air feels just right.

🧘‍♀️ Stepping onto my yoga mat when I really don’t feel like it… and noticing how different I feel afterwards.

None of these things cost much.

Some cost nothing at all.

And yet, they matter.

Because joy doesn’t always arrive as a huge celebration or an exciting life event.

Sometimes, it’s tucked inside the ordinary.

When life feels busy, stressful or overwhelming, we can become so focused on what needs fixing, changing or getting done that we forget to notice what is already bringing us a little joy.

Joy is worth noticing.

Not because everything in life is perfect.

But because even on imperfect days, there can still be moments that feel warm, comforting, beautiful or nourishing.

And when the not-so-great days come, the little pockets of joy we’ve gathered might just help carry us through.

So today, I invite you to pause and ask yourself:

What is one simple thing that brings me joy?

Then… really notice it.

Let yourself enjoy it.

Maybe even write it down.

Because the more we notice these little moments of goodness, the more we realise that joy isn’t something we have to wait for.

Sometimes, it’s already here.

Now it’s your turn - what simple pleasure brings YOU joy?

Tell me in the comments. I’d love to create a little collection of everyone’s simple joys.

What if, for two hours, you felt… nothing?

No racing heart.
No anxious thoughts.
No mental to-do list running in the background.
No feeling like you should be somewhere else, doing something else, for someone else.

Just… nothing.

And in that nothing, perhaps you find something extraordinary.

Calm.
Ease.
Space.
Stillness.
You.

Reset & Rise isn’t about pushing yourself harder, becoming more productive or adding another thing to your already-full calendar.

It’s an opportunity to stop.

To pause.

To put everything down for a little while.

To collect yourself.

And then, gently, to rise.

Two hours is all it takes to step away from the noise and give your nervous system the opportunity to settle.

Two hours to breathe deeply.
Two hours to move slowly.
Two hours to be supported.
Two hours to simply be.

And perhaps you’ll leave feeling a little lighter.
A little softer.
A little more like yourself.

This isn’t about what I can make from these two hours.

It’s about what you might receive from them.

Because you are worth the effort.

You are worth the pause.

You are worth creating space for.

Reset & Rise

Come and experience what it feels like to stop.

To reset.

And to rise.

You don’t need more on your plate.
You might simply need two hours to put it all down.

I woke up exhausted this morning.

Usually, I wake up ready to embrace the day. But today? Not so much.

When the alarm went off, it took me a while to even register it. I eventually dragged myself out for my morning walk, but it felt very long. Even the cool morning air didn’t seem to rouse me.

I came home, had my coffee, scrolled through my phone… and then went to my mat.

Not willingly. 😂

But I did something that still surprises me sometimes.

I listened to my body.

Instead of pushing myself through a strong practice because I thought I should, I honoured where I was today.

I moved slowly.
I rested.
I practised restorative yoga.
I meditated.
I breathed.

And by the time I finished, I felt like myself again.

Was it the movement?
Was it the breath?
Was it the mindfulness?
Was it simply taking the time to nurture and care for myself?

Who knows.

But I do know that something shifted.

My body felt better.
My mind felt calmer.
And my soul felt soothed, nourished and cared for.

And perhaps that's the reminder I needed today:

We don't always need to push through. Sometimes we need to pause, listen and give ourselves what we actually need. 💙

So, how did you feel when you woke up today?

And what are your go-to's when you're feeling a little flat, tired or out of sorts?

I'd love to hear what works for you.

Is this life? Some days I wonder.

Over the years, I've watched people I love face illness, loss and heartbreak. I've watched lives change in ways none of us could have imagined.

And right now, someone very close to me is experiencing an unimaginable loss.

At the same time, I find myself teaching yoga in a retirement community.

Young lives and old lives. Beginnings and endings.

Grief and joy. And me, standing somewhere in the middle of it all, wondering…

Is this life?

The juxtaposition can feel almost impossible to comprehend.

We spend so much of our lives making plans. Building careers. Achieving things. Worrying about whether we're doing enough, earning enough, succeeding enough.

And yet, underneath it all, there is this uncomfortable truth:

None of us knows how much time we have.

Perhaps that's why “youth is wasted on the young” feels different as we get older.

Not because young people don't appreciate life.

But because with age comes the understanding that life is finite.

That the ordinary Tuesday morning isn't ordinary at all.

That the coffee with a friend matters.

The walk outside matters.

The hug matters.

The laughter matters.

The quiet moments matter.

I've also been thinking about how little I actually know.

I don't feel like I have the right to tell anyone how they should live their life.

I don't have all the answers.

And I don't believe everything happens for a reason.

Some things are simply heartbreaking.

But I do believe there is something to be learned from being reminded of how precious and fragile this life is.

I'm reminded to be here.

To notice.

To feel.

To love my people.

To stop putting everything off until some imaginary future when life is less busy, less complicated, more perfect.

Because this is it.

This messy, beautiful, heartbreaking, extraordinary life.

And perhaps yoga isn't about finding all the answers.

Perhaps sometimes it's simply about coming back to the present moment.

Feeling your feet on the earth.

Taking a breath.

Moving your body.

And remembering:

I'm here.

For the joy.
For the grief.
For the uncertainty.
For all of it.

And today, I am grateful to be here.

“We love hugs around here.”

This morning I had the pleasure of subbing a yoga class at a retirement village. After class, the yogis came up for a chat, shared some beautiful feedback… and a few of them gave me a hug.

Then one of them said: “We love hugs around here.”

And it got me thinking about why we need hugs.

Touch is one of our most powerful sensory experiences. Our skin is constantly sending information to our brain about pressure, movement, temperature and sensation. And certain forms of gentle, caring touch can be experienced as comforting, connecting and soothing.

There is growing research around affective touch and self-soothing touch, suggesting that supportive touch can help us feel more emotionally comfortable and may help reduce psychological and physiological responses to stress.

So perhaps that hug isn't just a hug.

It might be our nervous system receiving a message of:

You are connected.
You are cared for.
You don't have to do everything alone.

But there's an important part of this conversation too.

Touch isn't always accessible.
Touch isn't always appropriate.
And touch isn't always welcome.

Having worked in a mental health hospital, I know that touch between patients is not permitted, and touch between staff and patients is rarely appropriate. And many people simply don't have trusted people in their lives who can offer them safe, unconditional physical affection.

Which is why I've become really interested in self-touch and self-soothing.

Because we can offer ourselves some of the sensory comfort of touch too.

A hug around your own body.

Placing a hand over your heart.

Gently rubbing your arms.

Dragging your fingertips up your legs as you come into Tadasana.

Massaging your feet.

Patting or tapping your legs.

Feeling your hands move over your body.

These might seem like tiny things.

But they are opportunities to come back into the body, notice sensation and offer ourselves a moment of kindness and comfort.

And this is why I weave touch into my yoga classes.

Not because everyone needs to touch someone else.

Quite the opposite.

You always get to choose.

Your body is yours.

Touch should be consensual, safe and welcome - including the touch we offer ourselves.

For some people, self-touch will feel comforting.

For others, it may feel uncomfortable or activating, particularly if they have experienced trauma. And that's okay too.

There is no “right” way to experience touch.

But perhaps there is something beautiful in remembering that we are sensory beings.

We need connection. We need comfort. We need to feel. And sometimes… we just need a hug.

Whether that hug comes from someone we love, someone in our community, or from ourselves.

When was the last time you gave yourself a hug?

COME AS YOU ARE.

Stiff? Sore? Tired? Busy? Feeling like you’ve fallen out of your routine?
Come anyway.
There are no expectations at Sparkling Soul Yoga.
No need to be flexible.
No need to touch your toes.
No need to have a “good” yoga day.
Just come as you are.

One of my favourite pieces of feedback from last week was:
“I feel revitalised. I turned up stiff and sore and now I am all loose.”

And honestly… that’s what it’s about.

Yoga isn't just about what happens on the mat.

It's about helping you function better in your everyday life - moving with greater ease, maintaining mobility, building strength, breathing more freely and creating a little more space in a body that spends so much of the day sitting, driving, working and looking at screens.

And sometimes the simplest movement can have a huge impact.
🌱 Gentle movement for mobility
☀️ Practising outside in the sunshine and fresh air
🧘‍♀️ Breathing and slowing down
🌿 Moving without judgement or expectation
💛 Connecting with yourself and your community

You don't have to wait until you feel better to come to yoga.
Come to yoga so you can feel better.

This week at Sparkling Soul Yoga:
💻 Wednesday 5:45am - Zoom
🌅 Friday 6:00am - Outdoor Yoga (45 mins)
🌿 Saturday 7:00am - Outdoor Yoga (45 mins)
🌿 Saturday 8:00am - Outdoor Yoga (45 mins)
🌙 Sunday 8:00am - Sparkling Soul Yin (60 mins)

📍 Outdoor classes are at Hardcastle Park, Hawthorne, beside the Brisbane River.

Whether you're a regular, haven't been for a while, or you've never practised with me before - you are welcome.
Come as you are.
Do what you can.
Leave the rest.
Your body doesn't need perfection.
It needs movement.

Sparkling Soul Yoga - yoga for real bodies, real lives and everyday wellbeing.

29/08/2026

If you’re new here, welcome.
And if you’ve been here for a while, this is your reminder of why we’re here.

I’m Kym, the person behind Sparkling Soul Yoga.

And I want to tell you something about why I’m here.

Because Sparkling Soul Yoga is about so much more than yoga.

I believe movement is a biological necessity, not a punishment.

Our bodies need movement.

Not because we need to burn off what we ate.

Not because we need to shrink our bodies.

Not because we need to earn our rest.

But because movement supports the systems that keep us functioning.

Our cardiovascular system.
Our muscles and bones.
Our balance and mobility.
Our brain.
Our sleep.
Our mental health.

And as we age, maintaining our physical capacity becomes increasingly important for independence, function and quality of life.

This isn't about chasing a particular body.

It's about building capacity for life.

And that's where yoga comes in.

Yoga isn't the only way to move - and I will never tell you that it is.

But it is one tool.

A tool that can combine movement, strength, mobility, balance, breathing, attention and rest in a single practice.

And there is growing evidence that yoga can support things like stress management and quality of life. The research isn't perfect, and I don't believe in overstating what the science tells us. But there is enough evidence for me to take yoga seriously as a tool for health and wellbeing.

That matters to me.

Because I have spent years working alongside people in healthcare, mental health and exercise, and I have seen what happens when people become disconnected from their bodies.

When movement becomes difficult.

When stress becomes chronic.

When sitting becomes a lifestyle.

When confidence disappears.

When your body becomes something you criticise rather than something you understand.

When you have spent years hearing that you're too fat, too old, too unfit, too inflexible, too unsuccessful…

Or simply not enough.

I don't believe you need another person telling you what's wrong with you.

I want to give you evidence of what your body CAN do.

Maybe today you held a pose for a few breaths longer.

Maybe your balance improved.

Maybe you got stronger.

Maybe your range of movement increased.

Maybe you noticed you could get up from the floor more easily.

Maybe you moved without fear.

Maybe you slept better.

Maybe you simply turned up.

These things count.

They are data.

They are progress.

They are your body adapting.

And sometimes, when years of negative self-talk have told you that you're failing, having something tangible to measure can be incredibly powerful.

This is why I teach yoga.

Not to create perfect yogis.

Not to make everyone flexible.

Not to make you smaller.

Not to make you look a certain way.

But to help people move better, function better and live better for longer.

Sparkling Soul Yoga is my little piece of a much bigger idea:

What if we treated movement, mental wellbeing and healthy ageing as essential parts of population health?

What if yoga was accessible to more people?

What if it happened in parks, workplaces, community spaces, homes and online?

What if you didn't need to already be fit, flexible, confident or “good at yoga” to belong?

What if yoga met you exactly where you are?

That's what I'm building.

And I don't want to call it a little community anymore.

Because we're not little.

We are teachers.
We are students.
We are people choosing movement.
We are people choosing health.
We are people choosing to invest in our future selves.

We are a movement.

And Sparkling Soul Yoga stands for:

Yoga for every body.
Movement for every stage of life.
Evidence-informed practice.
Mental and physical wellbeing.
Healthy ageing.
Inclusion.
Accessibility.
And the belief that your body deserves care - not criticism.

So if you're new here…

Welcome.

And if you've been here for a while…

Thank you for helping me build this.

This is Sparkling Soul Yoga.

And we are just getting started.
