Could hover cars be the future of transport? William is trying to convince you!
While recuperating at home, Will, a year 6 student, engaged in online lessons through the QCHS virtual education program. During his English lessons he has been putting his persuasive writing skills to the test by creating a poster designed to convince his audience that hover cars are a better choice for the future than other forms of transport!
Using AI to help create his hover car images, Will carefully combined persuasive text, language features and visuals to make his argument as convincing as possible. He included a range of persuasive language features, including repetition, rule of three, and exclamation marks, to encourage his audience to consider his point of view.
By choosing language designed to influence his readers, Will has demonstrated how powerful persuasive writing can be when words and images work together.
We love seeing our students use their creativity and digital skills to engage with learning in such imaginative ways!

🌟 Celebrating Collaboration and Creativity! 🌟

Yesterday afternoon Michelle visited the The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne and had the privilege of spending some time with the Founding Principal, Naomi McBride. Together, they shared a moment of inspiration, exchanging ideas and celebrating the power of storytelling in hospital education.

Naomi shared two incredible storybooks that her students were involved in creating: "Where Would You Go?" and "The Silver Sea". These books are a testament to the creativity, imagination, and hard work of the students, who poured their hearts into these projects.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with another hospital school community that shares our passion for supporting student voices.

A big thank you to Naomi and the Royal Children's Hospital School for their warm welcome and for the amazing work they do to support young learners while they are in hospital.

This week Michelle is in Melbourne at the 2026 Health, Educators, Learners and Parents (HELP) Alliance Conference 2026.

This year's theme, Connected Learning, Empowered Lives: Bridging health, education and well-being brings education & health practitioners, support organisations, researchers and parents together to share the latest evidence, knowledge and practice in continuity of education.

Michelle visited Monash Children's Hospital and caught up with Mercedes, Principal of The Hospital School at Westmead and Matthew, Principal of Hospital School SA.

SCIENCE Week
Our Junior campus, along with students virtually around the state in VHEP have been doing amazing work in chemistry with Miss Karen.
Through experiments and careful observation, students have been learning that everything around us is made of matter, and matter can exist in three main states: solid, liquid or gas.
Our recent investigations have focused on liquids. Students used measuring jugs, cups and coloured water to explore the properties of liquids. They observed how liquids can be poured, measured and mixed, and discussed how liquids take the shape of the container they are placed in. The brightly coloured water also made it easier to observe what happened when different liquids were combined.
Students also made predictions, observed changes and discussed what they could see during the experiments.
We have also been thinking about how liquids are different from solids and gases. Solids keep their own shape, liquids flow and take the shape of their container, while gases spread out and fill the space available to them.

🌊✨ Science Week Adventures: Building Boats and Big Ideas! ✨🌊
This week at Townsville Hospital School, our students set sail on an exciting journey of discovery by designing and building their very own boats! 🚤⚓
Over the past few weeks, they’ve been busy experimenting with different materials, exploring their properties, and learning what makes something float or sink. 🧪🔍 Armed with this knowledge, they put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test, designing and constructing boats to trial in a body of water.
Through trial and error, our budding scientists demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and critical thinking as they refined their designs to improve buoyancy and stability. 💡💪
It’s been incredible to see their curiosity and determination in action, and we’re so proud of their efforts! Science Week has truly been a celebration of learning, innovation, and fun. 🌟

For Science Week, students at the Sunshine Coast Campus explored the science behind snow, from cloud seeding and weather to the symmetry and structure of snowflakes.
They then applied their learning by designing snowflake shapes with pipe cleaners and conducting an experiment to grow crystals on them using Epsom salts. 🧪

🌈 Science in Action at our Chermside Campus! 🌈
This week, our students explored the colourful world of diffusion with the ever-popular Skittles in water experiment! 🧪🍬
By arranging Skittles in a circle on a plate and adding water, students observed how the colours spread out to create a vibrant rainbow. But what’s really happening here? 🤔 The sugar and food colouring on the Skittles dissolve in water, and the process of diffusion causes the particles to move from areas of high concentration (near the Skittles) to areas of low concentration (the water). The result? A mesmerising display of science and art combined!
Our budding scientists had a blast learning how molecules move and mix, and they even discussed how diffusion is important in everyday life – like how oxygen moves through our bodies. 🌬️💧

🌟 Celebrating Leadership at QCHS! 🌟
Last Thursday, we were thrilled to present Bella with her Student Leader badge during our school assembly.
At QCHS, our Student Leaders play an important role in fostering a positive and inclusive school community. Their responsibilities include leading our school assemblies, delivering the Acknowledgement of Country at hospital board meetings, and hosting special events. They also take the lead in encouraging participation by organising inclusive lunchtime activities for all students.
When asked about an idea or project she would like to champion as a Student Leader, Bella shared:
"Looking out at lunch, morning tea and in class for people who are not included and asking them to join in."
Bella’s thoughtful and compassionate approach is a wonderful example of what it means to be a positive role model. Her commitment to inclusion and kindness truly embodies the spirit of leadership at QCHS. Congratulations, Bella – we are so proud of you! 👏
