LEARN TO RESTORE chairs and other rattan furniture, by weaving in the traditional method!

One day only: Sat March 21st.

This practical class is designed for adult beginners of all ages.
No prior skills are needed.
All materials, training frames, take home instructions, tea, coffee and morning tea are provided.

Held right here on our heritage listed property in The Clarence Valley NSW.

This introductory level workshop is a prerequisite to the advanced caning session. The later advanced session is a two day course, where we work with you on your individual piece of furniture.

WORKSHOP: LEARN HOW TO...
-Treat wood rot to prepare for filling and painting.
-Fill holes in timber to prepare for staining and finishing.
-Fill gouges in already finished furniture.
-Apply ready-mixed water-based retail products.
-Mix traditional powder-based products.
-Use heat-activated fillers.
-Mix and use chemically cured fillers.
-Distinguish between appropriate paint removal methods and more...

If you've always wanted to know how the professionals do it, then this is your chance to learn first-hand.

This session is for adults of all ages and is designed for beginners. You don't need any prior skills.

We run classes for adults, at beginner level.
Small groups. No experience is necessary.
Held in a heritage setting right here in The Clarence Valley.

Congratulations to all those who attended workshop sessions here at Heritage Trades School during 2025!
The second semester is now over and we break for the next few months before launching a new workshop and class schedule for 2026.

We're looking forward to sharing more knowledge with you again soon, keeping traditional skills alive and talking all things heritage and restoration.

LEARN HOW TO WEAVE CANE FURNITURE!
WORKSHOP: We'll teach you the original method of hand weaving rattan, used to form the seat, back and side panels of antique timber furniture.
This practical workshop teaches all steps involved in completing a rattan panel. We'll show you the process from start to finish, using individual strands of rattan!
This introductory class is suitable for adults of all ages and all skill levels, but is aimed at beginners.

[This introductory workshop is a prerequisite to attending our advanced chair caning workshop].

Numbers are kept small to facilitate a personalised and dynamic learning environment.

INTRODUCTION TO FURNITURE CANING WORKSHOP:
Includes expert guidance, tea, coffee, morning tea, tools, practice frame and all materials needed during the day. BYO lunch.

Restoring timber sash windows may seem like an impossible project...

The entire process can seem quite daunting at first, but breaking this down into individual steps, makes it so much more manageable.

We're looking forward to our next window restoration workshop session later this year.
