So deserved Mrs Wilson!
When Allison Wilson first tested the waters for what would become her dream career, she was juggling the roles of a part-time journalist and teacher’s assistant, all while raising her young family.
After a year, her heart chose a career in education, so she commenced her studies in 2001 — all the while continuing to wear her many hats. Allison graduated with a Bachelor of Education (In Service) in 2007, working as a relief teacher across St Brigid’s Catholic School in Wynyard and St Peter Chanel Catholic School Smithton, and she continued working for the local newspaper until 2016.
“I have found relief teaching has suited my work and family life well.”
In all education roles, a love of children and learning is vital, and other traits Allison has found imperative are flexibility and deep faith.
“As a relief teacher, I believe part of my role is to help make other people's lives less stressful,” she said.
“Personally, my faith in Jesus Christ and being able to share that faith openly, has been central to my commitment to CET. I pray all children will come to know they are uniquely made and loved by God.”
Allison has had many personal highlights in her time with Catholic Education Tasmania; such as making life-long friends with staff, helping children to achieve things they were unsure of, and having a lot of fun along the way.
“For many years I taught drama and have had young adults tell me that is what they remember me for,” she said.
“In recent years it has been my absolute honour to take children through the Sacrament program.”
