Meet Big Jerry & Lulu 🤖🤖

What started with a simple conversation about a robot vacuum cleaner has grown into an incredible project in our Preschool Room

The children began wondering… Do robots have a brain? Do they have a heart? How do they know where to go? How do they get their information? What makes them work?

From there, the children researched, investigated, questioned, designed, created and experimented. They shared ideas, worked together, problem-solved and supported one another as their thinking evolved.

After many, many hours of collaboration, teamwork and creativity, we are incredibly proud to introduce our very own robots… Big Jerry & Lulu 🤖🤖

What a wonderful example of how a simple child-led conversation can spark curiosity, imagination and a whole world of learning.

We are so proud of our Preschooler children and the incredible project they have created together. I wonder where our Robots will take us next.

Pyjama Week💤🧸

This week, our children and educators got nice and cosy in their warmest pyjamas as we came together to support The Pyjama Foundation!

The Pyjama Foundation helps children in foster care by matching them with dedicated volunteer mentors, known as Pyjama Angels. These mentors spend time reading, learning and playing with children each week, helping to improve literacy, learning, confidence and life opportunities.

We are so proud to raise awareness for this wonderful organisation and to teach our children the importance of kindness, compassion and giving back to the community.

If you're able to, we encourage you to support The Pyjama Foundation by making a donation. Every contribution, big or small, helps provide children in foster care with the support they deserve.
Thank you to all of our families and educators who joined in and wore their favourite PJs to make a difference! 💙🧸✨

We proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week across Civic Avenue, taking time to reflect on all that we have learnt throughout the year about the rich traditions, customs and cultures of Australia's First Nations peoples.

Our children explored stories, music, art, language, connection to Country and the importance of caring for the land through meaningful, play-based experiences. NAIDOC Week provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate these learnings, continue important conversations, and acknowledge the enduring strength, resilience and wisdom of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We are committed to fostering an environment where children develop respect, understanding and appreciation for the world's oldest continuing cultures, ensuring these perspectives are embedded in our learning all year round, not just during NAIDOC Week.

We thank our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities for sharing their cultures, histories and knowledge, and we look forward to continuing our journey of learning together. ❤️💛🖤

Global Wellbeing Day 🤍

At Civic Avenue, we know that wellbeing is not something that can be “fixed” with a coffee or a single gesture. It is complex, personal, and something that deserves ongoing care, reflection and attention. However, we also believe in the power of small moments.

This week we offered a complimentary coffee/beverage for our Educators and families to enjoy from our friends Brazo's Beans ☕️ , along with a small card of gratitude- not as a solution, but as an invitation. An invitation to pause, to take a breath, and to reconnect with what makes you feel good.

Wellbeing can look like taking a moment for yourself, sharing a conversation, slowing down, or simply being present. We know that nurturing our wellbeing allows us to provide an environment for the children in our care that encourages connection, intent and recognition.

We are incredibly grateful for our team of Educators who show up each and every day with care, dedication and heart. Your wellbeing matters. You are valued, and you are appreciated.

And to our families- thank you for being part of our community.

Let Global Wellbeing Day be a reminder to check in with yourself and make space for the things that support your wellbeing ✨

🐴🐑🐰 A very special farmyard adventure! 🦆🐮
With our recent learning about animals, their habitats and the sounds they make, we were excited to welcome Penny's Ponies to our service this morning for a wonderful hands-on petting zoo experience.

Our N1 and N2 children had the opportunity to meet and interact with a variety of friendly animals, including a pony, sheep, calf, ducks, guinea pigs, bunnies and more. The children eagerly engaged their senses as they gently touched and patted the animals, listened to the different sounds they made, and observed their unique features and behaviours.

These meaningful experiences help children build their understanding of the natural world while supporting language development, sensory exploration, confidence, empathy and respect for living things.
There were smiles, giggles and lots of excitement as our little learners connected their classroom learning to real-life experiences. What a beautiful morning of discovery and fun! 🌿🐾💚

📚⚽ National Simultaneous Storytime Day ⚽📚
Today, our children gathered together to take part in National Simultaneous Storytime, an annual event held across Australia where children in schools, libraries, early learning services and communities read the same book at the same time to celebrate the joy of storytelling, literacy and connection. This year’s story, Luna Roo, inspired wonderful conversations, laughter and learning as the children explored themes of teamwork, perseverance, physical movement and resilience.

To extend on the story, our Preschool children took their learning outdoors and enjoyed their own exciting game of soccer, connecting with Luna Roo’s adventurous spirit and teamwork! Through active play, the children practiced cooperation, communication, turn-taking, problem-solving and perseverance while developing gross motor skills and confidence in movement.

Reading in the early years plays an important role in supporting children’s language and literacy development, helping to build vocabulary, listening skills, comprehension, imagination and a lifelong love of books. Experiences such as National Simultaneous Storytime foster meaningful learning opportunities, encouraging children to connect stories to play, movement and real-world experiences. 💛📖

Our hearts are so full after today’s Biggest Morning Tea ☕💛
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing Civic Ave community for coming together, sharing a coffee and a treat, and supporting such an important cause. Seeing everyone pull together and show such generosity made the day incredibly special.
Because of your kindness, we are so proud to share that together we raised an incredible $682.40 for the Cancer Council. Every donation, big or small, will help provide important support, care, and hope to those impacted by cancer within our community.
Thank you for making today so meaningful and for always showing the wonderful spirit of our Civic Ave community.

We loved welcoming the St Caths science students to our service to share a variety of engaging STEM experiences with the children! 🧪🔬✨

Through hands-on exploration, problem solving, experimenting, and discovery, the children were encouraged to think creatively, ask questions, and build confidence in their learning. STEM experiences in early childhood help support critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and curiosity about the world around them.

These special community connections provide meaningful opportunities for children to learn from others, build relationships within the wider community, and experience new ideas and perspectives in a fun and engaging way. Thank you to the St Caths students for inspiring our young learners and creating such exciting learning experiences! 💡🌱

Our Preschool/Kinder 2 children participated in an engaging Children’s First Aid class with Melissa from Cool Kids First Aid. 🚑⛑️

Melissa supported the children in learning and practicing important basic first aid skills including applying bandages, folding and tying slings, helping their friends into the recovery position, and learning how to appropriately dial 000 in an emergency situation. The children also explored the important roles of Paramedics, Police and the Fire Brigade, and how these community helpers support and keep us safe during emergencies.

Experiences like these empower children with valuable knowledge and confidence from an early age. By introducing life-saving skills in a safe and supportive environment, children begin to develop problem-solving skills, resilience, empathy, and an understanding of how to respond calmly in emergency situations — skills that will benefit them throughout their future. We are so proud of the enthusiasm, curiosity, and participation shown by all of the children! 💛
