National Science Week 2026

Today, S1SS had the amazing Mrs Garland educate our class on how to keep rivers healthy, what a catchment is, the exploration of ‘waterbugs’ (Aquatic Macro Invertebrates) and information to see how healthy the waterway base is in our community.

We all had loads of fun, especially identifying the different waterbugs.

We thank Mrs Garland for the valuable knowledge she shared with us!

To begin our Book Week celebrations, today all students had the opportunity to meet Jade Goodwin.

Jade is a First Nations illustrator based in the Hunter Valley. She has illustrated over 23 books, including the ‘Little Ash’ series (written by Ash Barty) and many well known picture books.

All students were very engaged in her presentation and it was wonderful to hear Jade speaking about creating her art and watching an illustration come to life.

Jade also had the pleasure of viewing artworks (‘book covers’) submitted by our students. She awarded a number of Encouragement Certificates, with 5 talented students being selected to receive a copy of a book from the Little Ash series, signed by Jade.

It was wonderful to have Jade visit our school.

This week, it was Mr Russell’s pleasure to meet with Georgia and inform her that she is to be appointed School Captain for the remainder of 2026.

As per tradition, Georgia was able to call her excited parents from the Principal’s chair.

Congratulations Georgia!

This vacancy was created as Ariana and her family have relocated overseas. We would like to thank and congratulate Ariana for the exceptional way she performed her duties as our school leader.

Congratulations are also extended to Bridey who has filled the position of Kendall House Captain.

Georgia and Bridey were inducted at today’s Tawny Assembly.
