This year, the students were victorious with great skills shown by both staff and students. It is always a fun way to raise awareness of the amazing work that Caritas do standing alongside marginalised communities around the world to confront the challenges of poverty.

🎌 Year 9 and 10 Japanese Excursion 🎌
Last Thursday, students travelled to Melbourne to explore the Japanese art collection at the National Gallery of Victoria.

Guided in Japanese, they learned about the animals, colours, seasons and themes featured in traditional ceramics, folding screens, woodblock prints and kimonos. πŸ‘˜

Students also enjoyed an interactive bingo challenge, searching for specific items within the artworks, and designed their own seasonal screens inspired by their birth season. πŸ₯

The day was topped off with a Japanese lunch and a visit to Daiso (a Japanese store in the CBD), providing students with a valuable opportunity to experience Japanese culture firsthand. 🎎

A memorable and enriching day was enjoyed by all! πŸ˜€

✝ Yesterday, 14 August, our College gathered to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary as a full school community at Mass.

This event holds special significance within our College through our association with our Marist and Mercy charisms, which both share a devotion to Mary. πŸ™

πŸ“Ώ Our celebrant was Fr Ronald, who is the Administrator of St Brendan's Parish, assisted by Fr Ruel, and we give a special thanks for their ministry on the special occasion.

Celebrating Mass is at the heart of our Catholic faith and is also central to our college life, bringing together our staff and students for a time of prayer, reading scripture, and being in communion with Jesus. 🀝

🀲 For over half a century, Project Compassion, an initiative of Caritas Australia, has raised funds to support people living in poverty around the world. Since its inception in 1965, generations of compassionate Australians have participated in Project Compassion, making it one of the nation’s longest running charity campaigns.

At Notre Dame College, our Project Compassion Cup continues to support this initiative each year. ❀️

⚽️ On Friday 21 August, our staff and students will battle it out on the soccer pitch to raise funds for Project Compassion and come together as a school community.

Check out this promotional video based on a familiar story, starring our very own Mr Finn, Mr Turcato, College and Vice Captains! 🀝

Course Preferences Matter
Helping Your Child Build Their VTAC Preference List πŸ“

As students begin finalising their VTAC applications, they will need to create a preference list of courses they would like to study after Year 12.

One of the most important messages for students and families is that course preferences should be listed in the order they genuinely want to study themβ€”not in order of expected ATARs.

VTAC will always consider students for their highest eligible preference first.

When discussing options at home, encourage your child to:

β–ͺ Include their preferred "dream" course always as their FIRST preference
β–ͺ Consider pathway options that may lead to the same career outcome further down the preference list
β–ͺ Explore both university and TAFE opportunities including dual sector Universities such as Victoria University, Swinburne and RMIT
β–ͺ Carefully check prerequisite subjects and any additional selection requirements

Our Careers Team is available to support students with course research and preference planning throughout the term.

πŸ”— Please book a VTAC appointment now if you haven't already: https://www.notredame.vic.edu.au/learning-teaching/careers
