Significant progress continues across our WCT Huntly facility.

From the in vessel composting tunnels and processing shed to the weighbridge, humidifier and supporting infrastructure, construction is advancing across every part of the site.

We recently welcomed the City of Greater Bendigo to the site to see the progress firsthand and learn more about the role the facility will play in supporting local organics processing.

We look forward to sharing more milestones as construction progresses.

Can't Eat It or Grow It? Don't Put It in the Green Bin. 🌱

A single soft plastic bag, fruit sticker or battery might not seem like a big deal, but contamination remains one of the biggest challenges facing the organics recycling industry.

When the wrong items end up in green bins, they can affect the quality of the compost produced from green waste and make it harder to return valuable nutrients back to the soil.

By keeping contaminants out of organics bins, we can:
🌱Divert more organic material from landfill
🌱Reduce methane emissions
🌱Produce high-quality compost that supports healthier soils and food production

🍅 Could your green bin help grow better-tasting tomatoes?

New research from the University of Queensland found tomatoes grown with compost made from food and garden organics (FOGO) were rated as sweeter, more aromatic and less bland than those grown without it.

It's another example of the circular economy in action. Food and garden waste collected through green bins can be turned into compost and returned to the land, helping grow the next generation of food. 🌱

It's all happening at our Western Composting Technology facility in Huntly! 🏗️👷🏻

Tunnel technology is an enclosed, highly controlled in-vessel system used to rapidly decompose and pasteurise organic waste such as food and garden organics (FOGO).

Using advanced tunnel composting systems, we will process up to 30,000 tonnes of organic waste annually, into high-quality compost for agriculture, landscaping, and commercial use.

Our Huntly organics processing facility is really taking shape! Thanks to Adam Carswell at the Bendigo Times for the recent feature.

The site will process up to 30,000 tonnes of food and garden organics each year, reducing the need to transport waste out of the region.

Construction is being led by Silverfox Management, with works undertaken by Bendigo and regional contractors, including Wild Company, Made Solutions - Electrical & Data, Stateform, Hadden Farren Land Surveyors, Newform Precast and Weldone Solutions.

The new $15m Huntly composting facility will process 30,000 tonnes of Bendigo’s organic waste locally to slash emissions by 16.3%.

Our Huntly site is starting to take shape!
Construction is moving ahead, with major earthworks now complete, including excavation of the dam and preparation of key site areas.

Over the coming weeks, works will focus on site access, drainage, and preparation of maturation pads, alongside the start of core construction activities.

The project is on schedule, with significant milestones set to be achieved in the next month.

Investing in the right technology is key to improving efficiency on site.
Our Terex Ecotec TRS550 Spaleck mobile screener is allowing us to process material where the work is happening, reducing handling time and keeping operations moving.

As Operations Manager John Wilson explains: “Being mobile is probably one of the main highlights… now we can just keep moving the screen based on where we’re working.”

Equipment like this plays an important role in maintaining consistency, productivity and performance in composting operations.
