Banmira Op Shop Grand Opening!

What a fantastic day at the Senior Campus yesterday as our Senior Years Op Shop Project Group officially opened the doors to the Banmira Op Shop!

Students have worked incredibly hard collecting donations, sorting items, setting up displays and preparing for the grand opening. It was wonderful to see so many families and community members come along to browse, shop and support this exciting student project.

The Op Shop provides students with valuable opportunities to develop communication, teamwork, organisation, money handling and customer service skills in a real-world setting. Most importantly, it was fantastic to see the pride our students took in welcoming customers and showcasing all of their hard work.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated items and to all the families and community members who attended and supported the project. Your generosity and encouragement helped make the day a great success! ๐Ÿ‘โœจ

Last week we held a free community lunch for students at our Senior Campus. ๐Ÿด

The Banmira Eats project group took the lead by planning the menu, preparing the food and cooking on the day.

It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase their skills and hard work to their peers.

This week our students joined schools, libraries and communities across Australia for National Simultaneous Storytime, sharing this yearโ€™s featured book, 'Luna Roo'. ๐Ÿฆ˜โšฝ๏ธ

Our Senior Campus gathered together to enjoy the story before taking part in a range of fun activities, while our Junior Campus welcomed grandparents & special persons to read and share the story together.

Today, 26th May, is National Sorry Day. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ

We acknowledge and remember the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with particular recognition of the Stolen Generations and the impact on families and communities. We also reflect on the strength, resilience and continuing stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

With almost 20% of our students identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, we are committed to authentic and respectful learning that centres student voice, storytelling and culturally responsive practice.

This is ongoing work - building a culturally safe, inclusive and respectful school community every day.

Our Senior Campus came together for a whole-school commemoration on the basketball court to reflect, learn and show respect. โœ‹

To all of our incredible Education Support Staff,

Thank you for the care, patience, dedication and compassion you show every single day at Banmira. The work you do often goes far beyond what people see, supporting students through their challenges, celebrating their successes, building relationships, and creating safe and positive learning environments where every child feels valued and supported.

Thank you for the countless small things you do each day, the encouragement, flexibility, teamwork, humour and kindness you bring to our classrooms and programs. Banmira is a better place because of the commitment and heart you bring to your roles.

We are incredibly grateful for everything you do for our students, staff and school community. Happy ESS day! ๐Ÿ™Œ

On Monday 11th May, staff across the Senior Campus participated in a valuable day of professional learning focused on strengthening teaching practice and enhancing student outcomes.

Throughout the day, staff engaged in a range of sessions, including learning around Numicon and Phonics Plus, with a strong emphasis on practical strategies that can be implemented directly in the classroom.

It has been fantastic to see these approaches already being embedded into daily teaching and learning experiences across the campus.

The day provided an excellent opportunity for staff to collaborate, build their professional knowledge, and continue their commitment to delivering engaging and evidence-based learning opportunities for all students. ๐Ÿ“
