Here a little bit of the history behind my Yoga Plus classes.
In 1985, during a school holiday program in a community centre of my locality (Guadalupe, Nuevo LeΓ³n, MΓ©xico), I learnt for the first time the exercises of animal locomotion. I remember very well that day, this was a program for primary school kids that included many different activities as music, drawing, dancing, etc. It was a very hot day, probably around 40 degrees and we were so many kids that the teacher decided to deliver the physical activities in the backyard on the concrete floor because the space was bigger than indoors. Everyone was complaining about how hard were the exercises, and many moms complained too on the following day. One mom said that her kid got blisters on his hands after doing the "duck walking" and the teacher said that it was his fault because he didn't put the hands on the ankles as indicated but on the floor. Many years later, in 2014 when I started teaching yoga as a full-time job in Melbourne, Australia and loving learning more and more, I attended a very special workshop about movement with Cameron Shayne from Budokon Montana Big Sky, this workshop included all these exercises I learnt in that school holiday program!! And I loved the feeling of such range of movement.
One year later, I watched a video of the incredible Andrey Moraru that blowed my mind and started to research more about handstands training, and attended the handstands classes of the amazing circus performer Bray Buenrostro were I learnt more about animal locomotion exercises as preparation for handstands training. Then, I moved to regional Victoria and kept training at home by myself, and discovered how this type of movement was unique for strength, flexibility and mobility.
From 2025, I'm enjoying the opportunity to share it in my Yoga Plus classes around Goulburn Valley. Thank you everyone who has been joining me π€
