๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐บ A very special goodbye
It was a very sad goodbye when our Japanese student visitors headed home on Friday after two wonderful weeks at Oak Flats High School.
What started as an opportunity for cultural exchange quickly became something much more meaningful, with genuine friendships forming between our Japanese visitors and their Australian buddies. ๐
At our farewell afternoon tea, students exchanged heartfelt thanks and gifts. Some of our buddies had bought Australian animal plush toys and bags for their new friends, while our Japanese students had written touching notes of gratitude for their buddies. There were plenty of smiles, but also some very genuine tears as students said goodbye and promised to keep in touch, with hopes of visiting each other one day.
Over their final days, our visitors enjoyed even more Australian experiences, from bush dancing, Aboriginal dance and art, to playing cricket and taking part in a talent show. They even enjoyed a very Aussie birthday celebration with Vegemite sandwiches and fairy bread! ๐ฆ๐บ
A huge thank you to Mrs Tolley and her Learning Support team, Aunty Lee-Anne Setter, our staff, buddies and students who helped make their visit so memorable.
And to our wonderful Japanese visitors, thank you for sharing your time, culture, laughter and friendship with us. We hope this is just the beginning of many lasting connections.
