I offer tutoring in literacy for children in prep to grades 8, either for remedial, advancement or homework help. Remedial mathematics tutoring is available for prep to grade 4. I am interested in providing enrichment programs, too, in literacy and art to primary students. I am a retired (since 2008) primary school teacher with 40 years experience. I have a great interest in children's learning an
d am keen to keep abreast with new research into how children learn and with teaching methods and equipment while still using tried and true methods of the past. Therefore, I believe in teaching "the basics". I will try to cater to your child's particular needs regarding methods and equipment best suited to them so he or she will be remain engaged and interested. While I am not in favour of children being given regular set homework at school, it's beneficial if they finish anything not completed
at school later at home. This should take priority over what I set for them. My program of remediation in literacy or maths will require short daily practice by your child at home - weekends included, so it is vital that parents or carers play their part too. I welcome regular communication with them and with your child's teacher at school if possible. I often use a computer at times if I find something particularly engaging that teaches a concept well. Your child will be closely supervised on the computer using a program that I have researched and made ready for them beforehand, so there will be no chance of he or she seeing anything inappropriate. Price is up for negotiation with 2 or more siblings. Each student will need 1 hour of my undivided attention, however. Days can be changed occasionally, depending on my other commitments.
