Following our food menu review and our ongoing focus on incorporating healthy vegetables into the children’s diets, we extended this learning into our everyday practice.
The children were actively involved in planting vegetables and herbs for our chef to use in cooking. Through this hands-on experience, they developed an understanding of where food comes from, how plants grow, and the importance of including fresh vegetables and herbs in our meals.
This experience demonstrates how our critical reflection process informs and strengthens our practice. We reflected on our menu and identified opportunities to meaningfully involve the children in healthy eating experiences. By connecting our reflections to real-life learning, we created opportunities for children to contribute, make choices, develop sustainable practices, and build positive relationships with healthy food.
Through gardening, cooking and shared conversations, we are embedding healthy eating and sustainability into our curriculum in meaningful and engaging ways.
