The club is run by Dr Jason Armstrong, with four black belt instructors assisting
. Jason Armstrong, is a 7th degree black belt, and has spent a significant time living and training in Japan under Iba Sensei and Sotokowa Sensei. Jason has been training in karate for over 35 years and has been teaching since 1986, his key focus in karate over the years has been personal and character development derived from the traditions of the art. Jason competed at national and international levels in his younger years placing in kumite & kata events in Australian championships, Pacific championships, US championships (kumite only) and in Japan. Jason also oversees the Traditional Japanese Karate Network, and has authored a number of books on karate. The Fig Tree Pocket Sh*to-Ryu Dojo is part of the Traditional Japanese Karate Network, a group of like minded sensei upholding the traditional karate environment, the network includes a range of styles. We are not one badged organization, but rather a collection of karate dojo ensuring excellence in karate's traditions. The Networks website brings together associated clubs in Japan, Australia and the USA and provides an online traditional karate resource repository.
