Historically, Scottsdale's economic base has been agriculture and forestry. Today, the economy remains strong but has expanded to include softwood industries and tourism. The Scottsdale community is supportive and traditional with a strong sense of family values. The school is strongly supported by its School Association, Parents and Friend's sub-committee, and numerous other parent and community

groups who continue to actively contribute and enrich the school'ss educational program. The school has celebrated a reputation built up over 90 years of which the community is proud. Strong and supportive relationships are maintained between the school and its community. This is evidenced by a committed School Association, a Mt Cameron Field Studies Centre Committee, a Farm Board, the Dorset Trade Training Centre Local Management Group, local businesses which provide work experience placements, various Service clubs and sport organisations. The school's high retention rate reflects a community that values further education and training. The school enjoys a wonderful reputation of past students achieving academic and vocational success. So grateful for the $20 000 Elders Community Giving Grant which brings a level of technology to our school farm helping to better prepare our students to learn about and have the skills for contemporary farming. Well done to Ms Kylie Rattray for a successful application. We are excited to see the eShepherd collars in action on our school farm.

🐂 Backing the next generation of agriculture in Scottsdale

Scottsdale High School has received $20,000 through the Elders Rural Services Community Giving Project for its Stronach View Farm: Next-Gen Beef Management project.

The funding will support the introduction of Gallagher Animal Management eShepherd collars at the school farm, giving students hands-on experience with virtual fencing and modern livestock management technology.

Elders Scottsdale Branch Manager Ashlee Kerrison said the project was a great opportunity to support local students and agricultural education.
“We’re excited to see Scottsdale High School receive funding through the Elders Community Giving Project and the positive impact it will have for local students. The hands-on experience students gain through this project will put them in a great position if they choose to pursue a career in agriculture and help prepare them for the evolving ways we farm today.”

For Scottsdale High School Agriculture teacher Kylie Rattray, the project is also about strengthening the school’s connection with the local agricultural community.

Building connections with local businesses like Elders is really important for our students and our school. This project is also about shifting our school farm into the future and exposing students to real-life technology that is becoming increasingly used on farms. Giving our students the opportunity to work with this technology will help them become more technologically capable and better prepared for the future of agriculture.”

Elders Livestock Production Advisor Nathan Saunders will work with the school and students to help install and implement the Gallagher eShepherd system at Stronach View Farm.

Congratulations to Kylie, the students and everyone involved. We’re looking forward to seeing eShepherd operating at the school farm and the students putting the technology into practice.

Tasmanian Rock Challenge 2026

Congratulations to our Scottsdale High School band on their fantastic performance at the Tasmanian Rock Challenge on Friday night at the Door of Hope!

Adam, Rubi, Declan, Mason and Lotti took to the stage with energy, confidence and incredible musical talent, representing our school with pride. It was wonderful to see their hard work, teamwork and passion for music come together in such a terrific performance. Many thanks to Mr Matt Wootton for his guidance and support.

A huge congratulations to all involved and thank you to the staff and supporters who helped make this opportunity possible. We are incredibly proud of you all!

On Friday we held A Bite of Thanks to show our gratitude to the community and service groups who contributed funds towards our Music Department to purchase instruments for our students. Thanks to Joanne Kerr and family, CWA Bridport, Rotary Club Scottsdale and Lions Club Scottsdale and our School Association for your support. Well done to our Enterprise and Service Group who did a fantastic job catering and serving guests. Thank you to Adam, Layla and Oaklea who performed an acoustic Silverchair number. We are fortunate to have the wonderful support of our local community for our young people.
