Bureau of Meteorology has warned of the possibility of significant rainfall early next week.

Queensland Boaties are urged to reconsider boating during this time. If you must go out remember to check the weather before and during your journey as conditions can change quickly.

Boaties are advised to be on the lookout for debris and unpredictable fast moving currents.

At 01:00am, Wayne Jeffrey, on a kayak trip, was thrown into the water by rough seas in Moreton Bay, Queensland and could not turn his kayak over. Luckily, he had his distress beacon (PLB) and activated it. AMSA tasked a rescue helicopter to the beacon location & Brisbane Water Police and Redcliffe VMR (Volunteer Marine Rescue) rescued him from the water. Is your beacon on our radar? What’s that just under the surface?

The Brisbane River is still closed while we make sure it’s safe for our boating community. While you might have noticed less debris around, dangerous objects are still working their way downstream and some are still submerged just under the surface.

The Regional Harbour Master’s direction for the Brisbane River to remain closed to all marine vessels is still in place. Exemptions can be made to [email protected] for those directly involved in flood clean-up operations, but remember you must only be out and about in daylight hours and wear a lifejacket.

🚫 Brisbane River – Closed.

Regional Harbour Master Brisbane has directed that all vessels must not operate within the waters of the Brisbane River area.

This direction applies immediately until further notice.

The flooding occurring in South East Queensland is currently impacting the Brisbane River area and has created an unsafe environment for the operation of vessels due to significantly increased water flow rates and uncontrolled flood debris.

This direction applies to all vessels within the Brisbane River area except those operated by Maritime Safety Queensland, Queensland Police Service, State Emergency Services, and those approved by the Harbour Master Brisbane.

(All waters of the Brisbane River and tributaries upstream of a line from Luggage Point East at position 27 degrees 22.667 minutes South, 153 degrees 09.6 minutes East to Fisherman's Island at position 27 degrees 22.667 minutes South and 153 degrees 10.0 minutes East ("the Brisbane River Area"))

The maximum penalty is $27,570 for an individual or $137,850 for a corporation.
