How Listening To Music Benefits Your Brain https://buff.ly/2nwOEcB

Research shows that listening to music can:
🎵 reduce anxiety, depression, blood pressure, and pain;
🎹 improve sleep quality, mood, memory;
🎧 increase some cognitive functions;
🎶 enhance learning and concentration; and
🧠 ward off the effects of brain aging.

Music is so good for your brain because it is one of the few activities that stimulates your whole brain. Because music is structural, mathematical, and architectural based on relationships between one note and the next, it’s a total brain workout.

There’s literally no other activity that works your neurons like playing piano does. 🎵

🧠🎶 Playing a musical instrument could help reverse brain aging

New research reveals that music may be one of the most powerful tools for healthy aging.

A study published in PLOS Biology found that older adults in their 60s who had played instruments for much of their lives processed speech in noisy environments almost as efficiently as people in their 20s. Their brains showed stronger neural connections in the right hemisphere, protecting them from age-related cognitive decline.

Even more promising, a second study in Imaging Neuroscience showed that it’s never too late to start. Japanese researchers tracked older adults who began learning instruments and discovered that, after four months of practice, those who continued playing for years showed no signs of brain shrinkage or memory decline—unlike peers who stopped.

Together, these findings suggest that music strengthens “cognitive reserve,” preserves brain structure, and may help keep dementia at bay. Beyond science, music also provides joy, purpose, and social connection—key ingredients for living longer, healthier lives.

✨ So whether you’re 20 or 70, picking up an instrument might just be one of the best brain workouts you can do.

From the 1961 album "Della Della Cha-Cha-Cha". My favorite song from that album, which has grown immensely on me.
