It’s Book Week at Turramurra Kindergarten, and our children have been celebrating their favourite stories in the most creative way!

Children were encouraged to bring along a favourite book and dress up as a character they love. From superheroes to storybook favourites, the costumes have brought so much imagination, excitement and confidence into our kindergarten.

One of the most wonderful moments this week was seeing a usually shy child arrive dressed as Hulk. Watching him become more confident, playful and engaged with his friends was truly special.

Book Week is more than dressing up. It creates opportunities for children to develop their:

- Literacy and reading skills
- Imagination and creativity
- Storytelling and communication
- Confidence and friendships

When children can connect with stories in a way that feels meaningful to them, they become more willing to express themselves, share ideas and connect with others.

We love seeing our little readers discover that every story can inspire a new adventure — and sometimes, a little extra confidence too!

Healthy Meals, Happy Tummies at Turramurra Kindergarten!

Lunchtime is an important part of the day at Turramurra Kindergarten.

Our children enjoy healthy, balanced meals prepared to support their growing bodies and busy little minds. From sitting together and enjoying their meals to chatting with friends and educators, lunchtime is also a wonderful opportunity to build positive social habits around food.

We want every child to feel comfortable, cared for and well nourished throughout their day — so they have the energy to play, explore, learn and grow.

Healthy food, happy faces and full little tummies!

At Turramurra Kindergarten, story time is a special part of our day.

Our educators love sharing books with the children, creating opportunities to listen, imagine, discover and learn together.

From cosy story time to group reading with different educators, every book opens the door to new ideas, new words and new adventures.

Reading helps children build language, communication, imagination and a lifelong love of learning.

Sometimes, the simplest moments — a book, a teacher and a curious child — can create the most meaningful learning experiences.

Learning Through Caring for Our Little Friends

At Turramurra Kindergarten, our children have the wonderful opportunity to spend time with our little chicks and ducklings.

Through gently touching, observing, and feeding them, children are learning about care, empathy, responsibility, and respect for living things.

They love watching how the chicks and ducklings grow and change each day, asking questions and discovering more about the world around them.

These simple everyday experiences create meaningful learning moments — helping children build curiosity, confidence, and a genuine connection with nature.

Little animals, little hands, big learning.

What a CRAZY Week at Turramurra Kindergarten!

Our Crazy Hair Week was filled with colour, creativity, and plenty of smiles!

From rainbow hair and wild hairstyles to imaginative creations that made everyone laugh, our children (and educators!) truly embraced the fun. It was wonderful to see each child's unique personality shine through as they proudly showed off their incredible hairdos.

Beyond the colourful hairstyles, the week was all about encouraging creativity, building confidence, and celebrating self-expression in a joyful and inclusive environment.

A huge thank you to all our amazing families for joining in the fun and helping make this week so memorable. We loved seeing everyone's fantastic creations!

Which hairstyle was your favourite? Let us know in the comments!

How Can You Help Your Child During a Tantrum?

Many parents ask Miss PohWee how to respond when their child is having a tantrum.

Her advice is simple: connection comes before correction.

Here are three gentle strategies you can try:

1. Acknowledge their feelingsWhen children are overwhelmed, they may not be ready to listen. Let them know, "I hear you. I'm here for you." A warm hug can help them feel safe and supported.

2. Take deep breaths togetherSlow, deep breathing can help calm big emotions. Breathing together gives children the chance to regulate before trying to solve the problem.

3. Talk after they've calmed downOnce your child is feeling calmer, gently ask questions like, "What happened?" or "What made you feel upset?" Help them find better ways to express their feelings next time, and always finish with reassurance and love.

At Turramurra Kindergarten, we believe every big emotion is an opportunity to teach children emotional regulation, resilience, and healthy communication.

If you'd like more parenting tips or support, our team is always happy to help.
