A timely reminder...

On Friday morning (10/07/2026), St. Arnaud Fire Brigade responded to a chimney fire within the St Arnaud township.

CFA members on scene ascertained that the fire was contained within the chimney structure and its internal flue. Through cooling from the top and bottom of the chimney the fire was soon extinguished.

A fire like this can easily spread into the house's roof cavity. The St Arnaud Fire Brigade continued to monitor the chimney, the roof and its surrounds with the Thermal Imaging Camera until temperatures had settled.

The scene was made safe and the Brigade returned a short time later.

It is a timely reminder that chimneys and flues need to be regularly inspected and cleaned. A build up of soot and creosote, or any other blockage such as nesting birds etc. can cause a fire.

Locum GP in St Arnaud

East Wimmera Health Service is pleased to welcome Dr Chi Ming Lau, who will be providing GP services in St Arnaud from 6 July until the end of July.

Originally from Hong Kong, Dr Lau completed his medical degree at the University of Hong Kong in 2001. He later completed a Diploma of Practical Dermatology and gained his Fellowship in General Practice before moving to Australia in 2017. Since then, he has worked in Tasmania and on the Central Coast of NSW, with special interests in general medicine, dermatology, skin checks and chronic disease management.

When he's not working, Dr Lau enjoys running, hiking, reading and travelling.
