A fun song accompanied by movements to improve the development of balance and posture. Created for 3-8 year olds, but appropriate for all ages. Share if you know someone who will enjoy this activity!

Why Spin on You Bottom?

Many aspects of neurological development are involved with these movements. Spinning, rocking and rolling all assist in the development of the our body’s balance mechanism, the vestibular. Good balance and posture are necessary for walking, running, catching, reading, hitting a ball… everything that requires movement! All these activities enhance the integration of the Primitive and Postural Reflexes.

How to Spin on Your Bottom:

The words in the song tell you what to do. This is a floor activity requiring lots of space for each person.

For “Waddle on your bottom” Some children will dig in both heels and slide. Encourage them to use their hips independently of each other. One foot reaches forward, taking with it the leg and hip. Then other the foot, leg and hip reach forward. Keep waddling.

For “Roll over on the floor”, try varying the rolling:
- put arms by side
- elbows bent and arms tucked up
- arms above head, etc.

Have fun spinning!
