🌱 "I don't just look, but truly see, the living world surrounding me... and I help." 🌿

On Monday, our Ryanston Campus was a hive of activity as students rolled up their sleeves and planted 400 Indigenous trees as part of the Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant (VJL250177). 🌳💚

This wasn't just about planting trees - it was about caring for Country, creating habitat for wildlife, and making a positive impact on the environment for generations to come.

We're incredibly proud of our students for embracing the opportunity to give back to their local community and help build a greener future, one tree at a time. 🌏✨

A big thank you to Ness & Caroline, along with everyone else who helped make the day such a success!

🎶🌟 **Celebrating Our Talented Musicians** 🌟🎶

A huge congratulations to **Kobi, Mollie, Cordi, Willow, Nate, and Tilly**, who took to the stage at the **Green Room Concept Studios End of Term Concert** at Archies Creek Hall. 🎤🎸🎹

Many of our students enjoy music lessons each Monday afternoon through Green Room Concept Studios, and we're so proud of those who chose to share their hard work and talent with the community at this special event.

Performing takes courage, commitment, and confidence, and it was wonderful to see our students embracing the opportunity to showcase everything they've been working towards in such a supportive environment.

Well done to each of you - we're incredibly proud of your dedication and can't wait to see where your musical journey takes you next! 💛🎶

💫Term 2 at VHS

A term of muddy boots and open skies,
Of learning not just where the classroom lies.
From Tarra Bulga’s towering trees,
To Northern Territory’s warm dry breeze.

Backpacks loaded, hiking trails,
Picnic Bay to Tidal’s trails,
Mount Oberon beneath our feet,
A challenge climbed, a hard-earned feat.

Writers wandered Melbourne’s streets,
Collecting stories, words, and beats.
While oceans called with snorkels near,
Marine Biology bringing wonder clear.

Fishing lines cast out with care,
Whale watching moments, salt-filled air.
Human-powered wheels and gears,
Built through effort, sweat, and cheers.

At the dam we tested streams,
Planted trees and chased big dreams.
With Landcare’s hands in earth and clay,
Growing hope for another day.

Community lunches, Venus Bay,
Sharing food and time away.
Bike repairs and woodwork too,
Building old and making new.

Collages crafted, mosaics laid,
MasterChef meals were proudly made.
Bread was kneaded, gardens grown,
Seeds of skill and self were sown.

In science labs and maths debates,
In English books and library gates.
Through Being Human, chess, and games,
Each student learning in their own names.

Horseback rides and farming rows,
Horticulture helping futures grow.
Bowling strikes and gym class sweat,
Moments we won’t soon forget.

Reconciliation week brought space to learn,
To listen deeply, reflect, and turn.
Career expos, the G*T, Top Class too,
Big steps forward in all we do.

And through it all, the strolling slow,
The friendships built, the sparks that glow.
A term of challenge, joy, and art,
A village growing heart to heart.

Now two weeks rest, a chance to pause,
To breathe, reset, without a cause.
Enjoy the break, the winter air,
We’ll see you back for Term 3 there. 🌿

🥾🌿 Hiking Module Camp Adventure 🌿🥾

As part of their PEAK experience, 12 students and 2 mentors took on an incredible hiking camp to put their skills into action.

Day one saw the group tackle a **6.5km hike from Picnic Bay to Tidal River**, carrying everything they needed for the journey - tents ⛺, food 🍲, and sleeping gear 🎒. On day two, they backed it up with another **6km hike to the summit of Mount Oberon** ⛰️.

Students planned, prepared, and cooked their own dehydrated meals over a Trangia 🔥, putting their practical hiking and survival skills to the test. Along the way, they also loved connecting with the natural world, spotting wildlife including emus, wombats, and possums 🦘🦡✨

This camp was the culmination of weeks of skill-building, resilience, teamwork, and outdoor learning - and a reminder of what’s possible when students step outside their comfort zone and into adventure.

We’re so proud of this crew and everything they achieved 💛

The Northern Territory Camp was one for the books! 🤩🌅🐊

From exploring Darwin to swimming in crystal-clear springs, our students embraced every moment of this unforgettable experience.

✨ Highlights included:
🏛️ Wandering through the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT
🌅 Walking East Point at sunset
🌿 Exploring the Botanical Gardens
🎬 Watching a movie under the stars at the Deckchair Cinema

In Nitmiluk, the adventures kept coming:
💦 Swimming at the beautiful Leliyn (Edith) Falls
🚤 Cruising through Nitmiluk Gorge and learning about Indigenous rock art
🎨 Visiting Top Didj Art Gallery, where students selected a special artwork for our school
🥪 Finishing the days with sunset hikes and picnic dinners

Mataranka brought plenty of relaxation and fun:
♨️ Soaking in Bitter Springs and the Mataranka Hot Springs
🛍️ Exploring the local town markets

Back in Darwin, we squeezed in a few final favourites:
🌴 Mindil Beach Markets
🪖 Exploring the historic war bunkers
🏖️ Cooling off at the lagoon

Of course, some of the best memories happened in between the big adventures - the endless rounds of Upsis, card games on the bus, late-night chats, shared snacks, and so many laughs. ❤️

These camps are about so much more than the places we visit. They're about building confidence, strengthening friendships, creating connections, and making memories that last a lifetime.

A huge thank you to our staff and students for making this camp such a special experience. The Northern Territory, you've been incredible! 🌴☀️✈️

🔨⚡ From the workshop to the track! ⚡🔨

There’s been plenty of creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning happening around VHS lately.

Samu and Connor have been hard at work creating their very own e-bike project 🚲⚙️, turning ideas into reality one step at a time. From design challenges to practical engineering, it’s been amazing to watch their vision come together.

Meanwhile, our Woodwork students have been busy building a bike jump 🪵🛠️ a project that showcases teamwork, craftsmanship, and a whole lot of enthusiasm.

We love seeing students bring their passions to life through real-world projects, developing skills, confidence, and plenty of pride along the way. We can't wait to see the e-bike and jump in action! 🙌
