Royal Newcastle Aero Club

Royal Newcastle Aero Club Since 1928, the Royal Newcastle Aero Club has devoted itself to promoting aeronautics in the Hunter.

Providing experienced flight training, thrilling Tiger Moth joy flights, spectacular scenic flights, tailored charter flights, and a friendly flying club! The Royal Newcastle Aero Club has a long and proud history, with it’s beginnings back in 1928. Over the years, the club has operated a range of aircraft with the clubs current fleet consisting of Cessna 152s, Cessna 172s, a Cessna 182, a Piper A

rcher and a De Havilland Tiger Moth. The Club also owns and operates Recreational Aircraft – with a brand new Skycatcher being the first to be delivered to a flying school in Australia. All club aircraft are maintained to the highest standards by the clubs own on site engineers. Our charter is to train you as a new pilot, so you can enjoy and experience the challenge and freedom of flight as safely as possible. We are only too pleased to answer any questions you may have regarding flight training with RNAC. We look forward to flying with you at Royal Newcastle Aero Club.

✈️ CENTRAL AUSTRALIA SAFARI - DAY 10 ✈️

After watching a beautiful sunrise at Mungo Lodge, our aviators enjoyed a hot breakfast before sadly packing the aeroplanes for the last time. We departed the dirt runway bound for Maitland, with fuel stops at Parkes, Dubbo and Forbes. The final stretch home was completed under IFR by most of our crews, but was a perfect opportunity for our PPL students to experience some marginal VFR after all they’ve learned along the journey. With each aeroplane safely arriving back at Maitland around 2pm, we all shared the realisation that the last 10 days have created memories that none of us will ever forget. Over 20 aviators and 9 aeroplanes flew with a variety of weather conditions, over open deserts and vast waterways, through controlled airspace, and right above some of Australia’s most incredible landmarks. We had an amazing route totalling just over 3000nm (5600km), across 3 states and 1 territory, and we’re only too excited for the next one! Although this post is the last of our 2026 safari updates, a large photo-dump will come very soon for all the fantastic pictures we couldn’t fit into the posts so-far. From all of us at the RNAC and Quantum Aviation, thank you so much for following along, and we’ll be sure to announce our next Safari in 2027!

✈️ CENTRAL AUSTRALIA SAFARI - DAY 9 ✈️

Today started with a tasty breakfast for our crews at the popular ‘Silly Goat’ café in Broken Hill. We spent the morning walking around town before packing our belongings and making our way back to the airport. With a cautious phone call placed to Mungo Lodge asking about the runway condition, we swiftly departed once again. In the air, instructors Harry and Greg performed some planned formation flying. Photos and videos of this can be seen in an earlier post. After an hour in the air, each aeroplane joined the circuit at Mungo Lodge, and landed on what many of us thought was an outback road. Having secured the aeroplanes, we explored the local reserve on foot, saw some unique animals, and had a sit down dinner at sunset. The night ended with some spectacular stargazing (pictures to come), and a cold beverage around the fire. Tomorrow is our last day of this incredible safari, and with poor weather forecasted for the Hunter Valley, our crews are more than ready to tackle the challenge of getting home safely. Stay tuned for our final journey - day 10!
