ABN: 876 716 501 69 'Bonjour Babies' was born to enable young babies and children to be exposed to a second language, whilst simultaneously allowing their caregivers to learn along with them at the same
time. Give your children a bilingual head start by learning a second language as early as possible. Research shows that early exposure to a second language leads to improved cognitive functioning (planning, problem solving and performance) and superior reading, writing, analytical and social skills. We have 4 groups divided into appropriate developmental age categories. Groups are lead by native French speakers incorporating components of an award winning language learning immersion program.
‘Bonjour Babies’ - 6 month - 2 year old group (40 minutes)
The ‘Babies’ group encourages learning through songs and reinforcing new key words & themes each week through puppet play and short stories. The use of music, repetition and engaging more than one of the five senses simultaneously, greatly aids learning and retention. The children are taught a mixture of English songs translated into French (the tunes of which are usually already familiar to the child), as well as traditional French nursery rhymes. Several songs are interactive, where the parent takes their child on their lap and engages them in simple actions to reinforce the key words and to create a fun learning experience! A record book of sight words is given to each child to reinforce learning between classes. There is also a songbook available to purchase to enable further language exposure between sessions. This program is designed to enable early language exposure in a fun, friendly social environment that is accessible to babies (as well as parents that may be new to the language).
'Bonjour Toddlers!' - 2-3 year old group. Pitched at toddlers in addition to the regular repertoire of songs, this group introduces basic games, stories and conversation.
‘Bonjour Bigkids’ - 3 – 6 year old group (45 minutes)
The ‘Bigkids’ program involves themed classes incorporating songs, games, stories, puppet plays, interactive play (including parachute play), and craft activities. Children revise the previous week’s key themes at the beginning of each class and have regular routine of songs to instil a sense of mastery in the children. Collaborative learning tasks, such as making themed murals, are designed to elicit cooperative learning and shared enthusiasm for group outcomes. Children are advised of the next week’s theme in advance so they can bring their own personal objects to the class to share with others and reinforce bilingual learning. The teacher primarily converses with the children in French, only using English only when necessary to abate confusion or for safety reasons. French Club: 5-12 years:
The French Club classes provide an opportunity for children to learn independently from their parents. The classes cover basic French language conversational skills, routine discussions (eating, drinking, playing, daily routines etc), the weather, feelings, days of the week and numbers. We have a regular routine of songs to instil a sense of mastery in the children. Visual learning aids and actions are used to enhance learning and retention. The children are encouraged to speak French by participating in games that require use of their verbal skills (such as Who Am I?). Instructions are also given to the children to help with their oral comprehension. Each term follows a theme, which is incorporated in the chosen activities. Collaborative learning tasks that are focused on the theme, such as making themed murals, are designed to elicit cooperative learning and shared enthusiasm for group outcomes. Worksheets are also used to reinforce learning through different mediums, and give children the opportunity to revise their work at home. We place strong emphasises on learning through fun, so adapting the program to feed into the children’s interests is also imperative. Classes vary from 1-2 hours to enable a more intensive learning period. We run classes throughout Sydney, as well as offer our program in many Early Learning Centres and schools.
