Last Monday, the Blackwattle Bay futsal team travelled to Hawkesbury PCYC for the NSW Schools Futsal Championships. The boys played really well in their group stage games, before unfortunately going down to Central Coast Sports. They should all be proud of the way they played and how they represented Sydney Secondary College!

In Week 6, a group of construction-curious students from SSC Balmain Campus attended a site visit with John Holland Group at the future Sydney Olympic Park Metro Station. Students participated in a safety briefing and enjoyed a detailed guided tour of the work site, including the construction of rail lines and observing multiple teams in action. They also heard career pathway stories from employees across various areas of construction. Project managers and safety coordinators shared their journeys from school to managing a major infrastructure project. Additionally, young female employees spoke about how they became Civil and Digital Engineers, Community Consultants, and Junior Planners, highlighting the diversity in construction careers.

🌳🌿 This years School Tree Day, our SSC Balmain Campus Sustainability Club teamed up with Year 10 Work Education and Mr Westwood to plant native trees, shrubs, and grasses across the Main Quad, English Quad, and front office gardens.

Thanks to generous plant donations from Inner West Council and a parent, we added more greenery and habitat to our school grounds. It was a fantastic way to bring the school community together and put our sustainability goals into action!

📸 What an incredible day at SSC Balmain Campus during the reopening of Loyalty Square and the Balmain War Memorial!

Our students had the unique opportunity to engage with community leaders including Mayor Darcy Byrne, Councillors Kerrie Fergusson and Philippa Scott, and MP Kobi Shetty. They also connected with RSL members and the families of soldiers newly honoured on the memorial.

A special shoutout to Orhm for their vital research in uncovering the stories of soldiers missing from the original memorial, making this heartfelt recognition possible. His dedication truly brought history to life for our students and community.

🦈📚 Dangerous Creatures, Important Stories

In Week 1, our SSC Balmain Campus Marine 2 class visited Birchgrove Primary to share picture books about dangerous marine creatures we created last term. Our group chose the Grey Nurse Shark, presenting our drawings, rhymes, and stories to excited and curious students.

This project helped us combine research with creativity to teach younger kids about marine life and conservation. It was rewarding to see their enthusiasm and hear their thoughtful questions—proof that sharks deserve protection, not fear!
