Southern Federation of Dance (SFD) is an Australian based not for profit, dance society that provides an examinable and very progressive syllabus in Jazz, Tap and Classical for all ages. We also provide a Dance Fusion syllabus that is an exciting blend of genres, designed to engage students in a wider dance experience. Members enjoy lots of benefits including, Conventions, Masterclasses, Competiti

The Sunshine State sure did bring the heat ☀️🌴🔥

Yesterday, Claver Theatre in Fortitude Valley was the place to be and Queensland’s dance community showed up and showed OUT. Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Broadway, Lyrical, Song and Dance - one stage, one day, and an energy backstage that reminded us exactly why we do this 🫰🥹

To every school who supported their dancers to come to the Southern Federation of Dance QLD Troupe Competition - thank you. The talent, the teamwork and the heart you poured onto that stage was something really special to be part of. This is what community in dance looks like ✨

A huge thank you to our adjudicator Katrina George for bringing such expertise and warmth to the room today 👏💜

Massive thanks to the SFD committee for supporting our second year of Brisbane troupes - especially to our team on the ground who kept things running smoothly, both onstage and off.

Three troupe competitions across 2026 - Thailand, Melbourne and Brisbane. What a year it has been for the SFD community 🌏

Our Southern Federation of Dance Syllabus Competition is back for another year in Melbourne — and we’d LOVE to see you there! 🩰✨

Join us at The Dance Studio, Burwood, on Sunday 11 October 2026 for a fun-filled day celebrating students who have completed — or will complete — an SFD exam in 2026.

It’s the perfect opportunity for dancers to showcase their passion, dedication and love of Ballet, Jazz and Tap in a friendly, supportive competition atmosphere. 💃🕺

And the best part? No costumes. No extra lessons. No extra stress! Just your SFD syllabus, your love of dance and a whole lot of fun with your dance family. ❤️

They’re not on Broadway yet. But give it time. 🎭

Our 11 & 12 year old Broadway Jazz dancers brought the full package to the stage at the Southern Federation of Dance 2026 Melbourne Competitions- technique, showmanship, performance style and a stage presence that had every single person in that room on the edge of their seat!

This is the style that demands everything at once. You can’t fake Broadway Jazz. You either own that stage or you don’t.

There is nothing quite like Classical Ballet in front of a live audience 💜

Today is Day 7 of the Southern Federation of Dance Melbourne Competition season, and last night, our 15+ Open Classical section brought a stillness and grace to The Round that took our breathe away. En pointe, arms engaged, every line considered - this is years and years of dedication made to look completely effortless 🌹

Twenty seconds and we are fully transported back to that moment 🩰✨

Can’t get these performances out of our head 💜

Day 6 of and our 13 & 14 year olds are serving high energy, cool, sleek and absolutely everything in between. Jumps, turns, kicks, layouts - these dancers are THAT girl and we can’t talk our eyes off them 🤩🔥

The standard at this competition keeps climbing and we are here at The Round for every single second 👀

Turns. Kicks. Jumps. Aerials. In heels. With props. Casual 💅💥

These Major Jazz Scholarship dancers did not come to play it safe. This is senior level jazz at its absolute peak - the kind of difficulty that takes years to even attempt, let alone make look this effortless!

Day 4 of kicks off at 9am today and the standard just keeps climbing. We are not okay 🥵🔥

Best seat in the house, no contest 🩰✨

Our 7 & 8 year old Classical Novice dancers lined up on that stage and the entire room melted. Every tutu. Every tiny pointed toe. Every dancer trying so hard to hold their best position while the audience absolutely glowed with pride.

Our Junior Jazz Scholarship competitors hit centre stage at The Round and absolutely delivered - technique, strength, flexibility, agility, control, balance, showmanship and a level of professionalism that had us speechless. These are junior dancers. Let that sink in 👀

With a record number of over 30 entries in this section alone - the future of dance is looking BRIGHT 😎

The SFD Scholarship has been running since 1989 for exactly this reason - to give dancers a platform to show everything they’ve got, not just what’s in the syllabus. And every single one of these young performers brought it 💪
