Three days. Thirty passionate dance educators from across Australia. One intensive, career-defining experience 🩰💫 The Southern Federation of Dance Australian Teaching Certificate Course brought together some of the most dedicated young dancers in the country for a face-to-face weekend in Melbourne - and what a weekend it was 🤩 Across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, our participants dove deep into the theory and practice of truly great dance teaching. From anatomy, postural assessment and motor development to teaching methodology, dance composition, ethics, music & rhythm, and the full SFD Syllabus from Foundation through to Level 4 in Classical Ballet, Jazz and Tap - every session was designed to build well-rounded, confident, and knowledgeable teachers 🤓 And that’s just the face-to-face component. These incredible educators completed extensive online learning before the course - and over the next 12 months, they’ll be preparing for both practical and written examinations as they work toward full certification. This was not just a weekend workshop. This was a professional qualification, future-proofing Dance Education in Australia for years to come 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 We couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them 👯‍♀️ A huge thank you to our host studio @ringwoodballetgroup and to our course coordinators, guest lecturers and SFD staff, who all gave up their valuable time and expertise to ensure the future of dance in Australia will be BRIGHT ☀️ ✨ And the exciting news? The SFD Teaching Certificate is heading to Thailand! Last weekend, SFD proudly celebrated a major milestone — 40 years of community, growth, and excellence.

Over four decades, SFD has evolved through the dedication of its members, staff, and leaders — past and present — all of whom have played a role in shaping the dance society we are today. From humble beginnings to where we stand now, this anniversary was a powerful reminder of the strength of our community and the impact of collective passion and commitment.
