Supported by the NSW Federation of Community Language Schools (NSWFCLS), Sydney Northwest Chinese School is pleased to share this research invitation from A/Prof Aniko Hatoss at UNSW Sydney.

We invite all multilingual and culturally diverse families with children aged 6–14 to participate! Your insights will help researchers gain a clearer, updated understanding of community languages in NSW.

想親自體驗毛筆揮毫與墨香的樂趣嗎？由雪梨華僑文教服務中心指導、雪梨西北中文學校統籌主辦的「2026年漢字文化節——NSW正體漢字毛筆書寫比賽」正式開始報名囉！

無論您是小學生、中學生、成人班學員，或是剛開始學習中文的非母語愛好者，這都是一個展現自我、體驗文化的絕佳舞台！

🌟【Learning Chinese Beyond the Classroom! 走出教室，學以致用！】🌟

Last Saturday, our adult students took part in a special Chinese immersion excursion as part of our Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) program.

To celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival and provide students with authentic language practice opportunities, our teachers led students into the local community for a fun-filled day of real-life Mandarin learning and Taiwanese cultural experiences.

🛒 Students visited Asian supermarkets to complete shopping challenges, identify traditional Dragon Boat Festival ingredients, and interact with shop staff entirely in Chinese.

🍜 At local restaurants, students put their classroom learning into practice by reading Chinese menus, ordering meals, describing flavours, asking questions, and communicating confidently in Mandarin.

🍧 The excursion also included a visit to enjoy delicious Taiwanese desserts, where students experienced Taiwan's unique food culture while sharing conversations and laughter with classmates.

One student shared:

💬 "It was fun and good to spend time together outside the classroom."

Experiences like these provide invaluable opportunities for students to build confidence and develop practical language skills in authentic settings. We are incredibly proud of our students for stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing the challenge!

At Sydney Northwest Chinese School TCML, we believe language learning should be practical, interactive, and enjoyable. We look forward to bringing our students more exciting cultural and immersion experiences in the future.

🌟【走出教室，學以致用！】🌟

上週六，雪梨西北臺灣華語文學習中心（TCML）成人班學員參加了一場特別的華語實境教學活動。

為了歡慶端午佳節，並提供學員真實的華語應用環境，老師們帶領學員走入社區，展開一場充滿臺灣美食與文化特色的沉浸式學習之旅。

🛒 學員們走進亞洲超市，完成購物任務，尋找端午節傳統食材，並全程以中文與店員互動交流。

🍜 在餐廳裡，大家挑戰閱讀中文菜單、使用中文點餐、描述食物口感及與店家溝通，真正將課堂所學運用於日常生活中。

🍧 行程中，師生們也一同品嚐道地的臺灣甜點，在享受美食的同時，深入體驗臺灣獨特的飲食文化，現場充滿歡笑與熱絡交流。

一位學員分享道：

💬「能走出教室聚在一起真的太好玩、太棒了！」

透過這樣的實境教學，學員們不僅提升了中文溝通能力，更增強了使用華語的信心。我們為每位勇於挑戰、積極開口說中文的學員感到驕傲！

What an incredible Saturday afternoon we had at North Kellyville Public School! Our Adult Paper Umbrella Painting & Hakka Culture Workshop was a resounding success, proudly co-hosted with 澳洲雪梨客家會 Sydney Hakka Association Australia Inc.

From exploring the rich history of Taiwan's Hakka culture to hand-painting beautiful traditional Meinong oil-paper umbrellas, everyone completely immersed themselves in the creative process.

Of course, no cultural journey is complete without food! Our participants thoroughly enjoyed tasting authentic Taiwanese Southern and Northern-style rice dumplings, chewy Hakka Mochi (粢粑), and iconic Taiwanese snacks and drinks.

【Community Milestone! Opening Doors to Language & Culture in the Hills 🌏✨】

What a fantastic day for our community! Today, we officially celebrated the Grand Opening of the Taiwan Centre for Mandarin Learning (TCML) – Sydney Northwest Chinese School at the Vinegar Hills Memorial Community Centre in Rouse Hill. 🎊

We were incredibly honoured to have The Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne and Minister Chia-Ching Hsu from Taiwan’s OCAC join us to unveil the plaque and mark this major milestone for the Sydney Northwest Chinese School.

🌟 A Vision for a United Hills
A huge thank you to Mayor Michelle Byrne for her inspiring words and continuous support. The Mayor noted that the Hills is one of the fastest-growing and most cosmopolitan areas in the country. As she beautifully put it: "The Hills is the greatest place on Earth because of the powerful, like-minded people here who want to break down barriers and create a united, harmonious community." We couldn't agree more!

💡 Global Connections & Local Blessings
Minister Hsu shared the incredible global growth of TCML, which now boasts 94 centres worldwide. She described the centre not just as a classroom, but as a community for sharing values and building harmony through mutual understanding.

In a wonderful gesture of friendship, Minister Hsu also presented the "Taiwan the Brave" (Taiwan Shang-Yong) Red Envelopes, bringing a special blessing of good fortune and luck to all our local families! 🧧✨ She also confirmed exciting opportunities for our residents, including scholarships and travel grants to experience the real Taiwan.

Kye (Urban Planner): "I’m here for the martial arts and the culture. The teachers are so patient—they make learning Mandarin practical and heaps of fun!"
