Morning all! Tanabata is here! I have just finished creating some Tanabata activities for July/August 7th. It has a couple of quiet reading pages on Orihime and Hikoboshi, some info on the origins of Tanabata, the seven traditional decorations, the Tanabata song, foods and festival locations. It also some find a words, crosswords, word matches, a short answer quiz and of course, some tanzaku templates (some blank and some with grammar patterns pre-filled). Check it out!

Ochugen is coming up on July 15th! Students can explore the formalities and history of Ochugen gift-giving: examples of gifts, wrapping (noshigami) and decorating with cho-musubi knots, providing gifts in return (okaeshi), and who to provide gifts. This also covers the history of Ochugen by the influence of Taoism and Buddhism in relation to the Chinese Zhongyuan (Ghost) Festival, and describes the celebration of Obon and obon odori (dancing).

Celebrate Children's Day on May 5th with your students by reading about the history of Kodomonohi and Japanese cultural traditions such as gogatsu ningyo and the use of iris leaves. Also includes a make your own koinobori (carp streamer) colouring in activity, origami kabuto, find a words and quizzes. Also comes with free Kodomonohi festival vocab display card sets in both Hiragana and Kanji.

This resource has several reading passages on the history of chopsticks and their cultural significance during major life events such as weddings and funerals (kotsuage/ bone pass). It also includes instructions for how to use chopsticks, fun chopstick training games for the classroom, etiquette do's and don'ts, a short answer and long answer quiz using cognitive verbs, a quick true/false quick and modelled responses.
