He Hears

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:14, NIV
Are you living frustrated because your prayers aren’t being answered the way you want? Your plans aren’t working out? Take the pressure off. God is in control. He’s still on the throne. You’re not always going to understand it. If you did, it wouldn’t take any faith. You could save yourself a lot of frustration if you’d learn to have unconditional trust. The closed doors, the disappointments, the delays—it’s all working for you. And yes, it’s good to be determined. Be persistent. But let God answer your prayers His way. If He’s not changing it, not removing it, not opening it, don’t fight it. Learn to embrace where you are. He’s given you the grace not just to be there but to be there with a good attitude. If you’re going to pass the test, keep a smile on your face. Keep a song in your heart. Keep passion in your spirit. Don’t drag through the day the Lord has made. He’s working out His plan for your life. He’s going to get you to where you’re supposed to be.

Prayer:
“Dear Abba Father God in heaven, thank You for the privilege of coming to You, the Creator of the universe, and being able to ask You for the things that are on my heart. Thank You that You hear me and are faithful to bring Your will to pass. I believe and declare that the answer is on the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Love never fails.

1 Corinthians 13:8:
[8] Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 13

The Washington Post carried an article about a paralegal named Mark Turner from Charlottesville, Virginia. He had a grinding daily commute—three hours each way—and it was hurting his marriage. He had little time or energy left for his wife. But he had a sudden moment of awakening, and he realized his family was more important than his job. He quit his high-paying job, took a lower-paying job nearby, and rediscovered the simple joys of unhurried mornings and family dinners. “The commute had beaten me,” he said, “but now I’m driving a new road.”

When we love others, we make sacrifices for them. It sometimes takes a sudden moment of awakening, and such moments are usually prompted by the Lord and by circumstances. Can you think of one way you can improve the way you love a family member? Love never fails.

“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13).

Love is the cohesive force that holds the family together.... True love does not fail. It loves even as Christ loved the church, despite personality defects, physical blemishes and mental quirks. (Billy Graham). Amen

Careful to Not Drift

So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.
Hebrews 2:1, NLT

It’s interesting to watch children at the beach who are playing in the waves of the ocean. After an extended period of play, you’ll see them look up and realize that they are a hundred yards down the beach from where they started. They didn’t realize that that whole time they were slowly drifting. It wasn’t a big storm or huge waves that caused them to drift. It was just the normal movement of the ocean.

If you are not careful and aware, the normal currents of life will cause you to drift from the faith. To drift does not require a major sickness or a divorce; just everyday life will do it. Perhaps you don’t realize it, but you may have drifted into a place of doubt. You used to be excited about your dreams, but the passion is gone. Maybe you’ve drifted into bitterness because you had a bad break, a person did you wrong. The good news is that you can stop the drift and start believing again, start expecting His goodness and blessings. Keep your hope in the Lord.

Prayer:
“Dear Abba Father God in heaven, thank You that my faith can be firmly and securely anchored to my hope in You. Thank You that my hope and expectancy in You will never be disappointed, and it keeps me from drifting into doubt and mediocrity. Help me to be careful and stay true to the truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Isaiah 58:11:
[11] And the LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

Yesterday you were strong because the Lord loved you. Today you are still strong because the Lord never leaves you. Tomorrow you will be stronger because the Lord will always be with you & keep you in His amazing grace.

Come Down

When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” (Luke 19:5, NLT)

As a chief tax collector, Zacchaeus may have been the most despised person in the crowd waiting to see Jesus. He made his living and got wealthy by cheating other people out of their money. His whole life he had pushed others down to get what he wanted. He didn’t care about the damage he did to others; he cared about what he could take from them. He was an expert at getting the upper hand. Nevertheless, he was the one whom Jesus called out that day. Jesus was saying, “Zacchaeus, I want to turn your life around. You’ve made a lot of bad choices, but that’s not who you are. It’s time for you to be honest and face what you’ve done. But you have to come down and meet with Me.” Zacchaeus did, and soon after he took responsibility for his wrongs, Jesus said, “Today, salvation has come to your house.”

Do you need to come down from your tree, meet with Jesus, and honestly deal with some issues in your life today? He’s calling your name. His saving help is for the humble.

Prayer:
“Dear Abba Father God in heaven, thank You that even though You know everything about me, You still invite Yourself to come to my house and bring the gift of salvation. Thank You that it’s about Your love for me, about humbling myself so that You can make changes in my life. Welcome to my house. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Intended for Good

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”
Genesis 50:20, NLT

For thirteen years Joseph was first held in Egypt as a slave, then as a prisoner, before he was suddenly brought out to interpret Pharaoh’s dream and made the prime minister. When his brothers, who had sold him into slavery, came to the palace hoping to buy food for their families, they were shocked when they finally realized he was Joseph and feared he would take revenge upon them. But he was saying, “Don’t be afraid. You meant it to harm me, but God used you to bring me to this position so I could save so many lives.”

If Joseph were here today, he would tell you, “God’s plans for you are for good. But on the way to the good, there’s going to be some bad, some trouble, some delays, things you don’t understand. You may have trouble all around, but stay in peace. When it’s your time, all the forces of darkness cannot stop what God has ordained for you. You’re going to see some suddenlies. God suddenly opens doors, suddenly promotes you, suddenly turns things around. Trust Him in the trouble.”

Prayer:
“Dear Abba Father God in Heaven, thank You that what so often looks and feels like trouble is really Your hand moving me toward Your purpose. Thank You that it’s going to lead me into a new level of my destiny that I could never experience without it. I believe it’s working for me, not against me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Shine

So Potiphar gave Joseph complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned. With Joseph there, he didn’t worry about a thing—except what kind of food to eat!
Genesis 39:6, NLT

Joseph’s brothers so despised him that they sold him to Midianite merchants who took him to Egypt and sold him as a slave to a man named Potiphar. Joseph’s whole world was turned upside down. He went from being his father’s favorite son with dreams of leadership to being a slave in a foreign country. He didn’t speak the language, and his freedom was gone. You would think he would be bitter, but you never read that Joseph complained. He kept being his best even though everything was going wrong. So much so that Potiphar put Joseph in charge of all his household. Joseph wasn’t just goingthrough it, he was growing through it. His attitude was: “God, this is where You have me, so I’m going to shine. It’s unfair, but I know You’re here with me.”

When you do the right thing when the wrong thing is happening, your spiritual muscles, your integrity, your endurance, and your faith are growing. When you prove to God that you have the character, He’ll open doors you could never open.

Prayer:
“Dear Abba Father God in heaven, thank You for Your presence and favor in my life that no situation or person can take away. Thank You that my reputation and the respect I’m given are in Your hands. I believe that You are always my vindicator and my part is to just keep doing the right thing. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Why the Closed Door?

My troubles turned out all for the best—they forced me to learn from your textbook.
Psalm 119:71, MSG

One of the hardest things for us is to let things go. We fight closed doors, get discouraged over who walked away, bitter over the dream that didn’t work out. You have to realize that God stopped it, not to make your life miserable, but to take you into something bigger, better, more fulfilling. The trouble, the disappointment, the loss, or the rejection may not make sense right now, but later on you’ll see what God was up to. If He hadn’t closed that door, you wouldn’t have stepped into the new level. If He hadn’t caused that person to move on, you wouldn’t have met that divine connection. If that opportunity didn’t dry up, you wouldn’t have discovered the potential in you. Trust Him when you don’t understand. It’s not random. It’s a necessary ending.

God is your doorkeeper. He opens and closes doors to push us in our purpose and to learn lessons we wouldn’t learn any other way. Stay in faith. God’s ways are not our ways. Your troubles will turn out for the best.

Prayer:
“Dear Abba Father God in heaven, thank You that You are the doorkeeper of my life. Thank You that disappointments and troubles cannot keep me from what You have purposed for me. I believe that You are opening and closing the right doors, and I’m looking for Your best. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Is It Your Time?

“Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”Esther 4:14, NLT

God is looking for some Esthers today. She was a Jewish orphan living in exile in Persia whom God raised up out of obscurity to become the queen. When a decree was made that on a certain date all the Israelites were to be annihilated, Esther, against court protocol, went into the king’s chamber unannounced. That was forbidden, and unless she was granted the king’s favor, she could be put to death. Her attitude was: “I’ve been raised up for such a time as this, and I cannot shrink back in fear. If I perish, I perish.” Because Esther stepped into the unknown by faith, the king changed the decree and the Israelites were saved.

Perhaps you’re facing a problem with huge consequences. You’ll be tempted to shrink back, let fear and intimidation convince you to play it safe. But God wants to show Himself strong through your life. You are where you are for just such a time as this. God will do what only He can do when you activate your faith and step forward. Arise and take the first step.

Prayer:
“Dear Abba Father God in heaven, thank You for all You have done in my life and for every opportunity to step forward by faith and make a difference in the lives of others. Help me to be more aware of the people and needs around me and to be bold to use my gifts and talents to help others. Show Yourself strong through me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

All Power

…being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.
Colossians 1:11, NIV

Too often we see ourselves as average, as limited. We hear the stories about Moses, David, and Daniel and think, “They were powerful and did amazing things, but they were called by God and anointed.” Can I tell you that you are called, chosen, and anointed as well? Yes, we need to honor who they are, but they were people just like you and me. They were chosen to live in their day; you’ve been chosen to live in this day. Why don’t you believe that you are a giant killer, a barrier breaker, a history maker?

The truth is that if you weren’t “being strengthened with all power according to God’s glorious might,” some of the things that you’ve been through—the sickness, the loss, the setback, the disappointment—would have defeated you. But you’re still standing and moving forward. You’re not bitter; you’re blessed. It wasn’t by your own strength; it was the Lord your God breathing on your life. If you’re going to reach your full potential, you have to believe you are powerful, that you have the favor of God.

Prayer:
“ Dear Abba Father God in heaven, thank You that Your power is at work to strengthen me in order that I can have great endurance and accomplish great things. Thank You that I can put discouragement behind me and stir up my faith. I believe that I am called, chosen, and anointed to be an overcomer. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Mighty God

Then he built an altar there and named it El-Elohe-Israel (Mighty Is the God of Israel).
Genesis 33:20, MSG

After Jacob spent twenty years estranged from his brother, Esau, he decided to return home with his family. Jacob had deceived his father into giving him the family blessing that belonged to Esau, and Esau had threatened to kill him. Jacob didn’t know how Esau would react to his return, but when he saw Esau coming with four hundred men, I’m sure Jacob thought he was a dead man. But Esau hugged and kissed him. Both men had tears running down their cheeks, and Esau welcomed Jacob’s wives and children.

This was something greater than Jacob ever imagined, and his response was to build an altar and name it El-Elohe-Israel, “the mighty God of Israel.” You have had times when you knew that what happened was the mighty God at work. It might have been freeing you from an addiction or a broken relationship. Build your altars of thankfulness for what He’s done, and be encouraged that the mighty God is still at work. He is still parting Red Seas, still defeating giants, still opening doors supernaturally.

Prayer:
“Dear Abba Father God in heaven, thank You that You are the mighty God who goes before me and fights for me. Thank You for all the great things You have done for me and for all the victories that You are about to bring me through. I believe that You are still at work opening doors. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
