Congratulations to Year 10 Student Aurora Iler who just Won Best Director at the Youth Oscars in Hollywood!

Aurora took out the prestigious award at the 47th Annual Young Artist Academy Awards, held at the Directors Guild of America.

This is her second Youth Oscar win after earning one for Best Actress in 2024.

Aurora won this award for "Grape", a Short film about Teen va**ng that she wrote and directed at just 13. Aurora’s film is now embedded in 1700 Australian Schools with a curriculum made around it.

Queensland’s Children’s commissioner, whose office backed the film said, “Sometimes the best thing we can do for young people is recognise a good idea, give them the opportunity and resources to pursue it, and then get out of their way’”.

Aurora started acting when she was 8 and started directing with her first film Melon Head when she was 12. Now she has written her first feature and is working hard on getting it made.

You can follow Auroras Professional account to witness her journey.

We are very proud of your achievements Aurora and look forward to seeing what comes next.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of UNC. He was a much loved member of the John Therry community. Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with his family and loved ones during this tough time.

Rest in Peace, UNC. You will be dearly missed.

Vale, Unc 🖤

Due to Sorry Business and Cultural protocol the family has requested that we refer to Our Respected Aboriginal Elder as Unc and following the funeral, we will be able to acknowledge him by name.

Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong community is deeply saddened by the passing of respected Aboriginal Elder Unc, a proud Jerrinja man from Nowra and a much-loved community leader across the Macarthur region.

For more than 30 years, Unc devoted himself to bringing people together, supporting his community and sharing his knowledge of Aboriginal culture, history and language. Through his leadership, generosity and commitment to reconciliation, he made a lasting difference to countless lives.

Unc was also a passionate advocate for Catholic education, supporting schools across the Diocese, including John Therry Catholic College, Rosemeadow, St John's Catholic Primary School, Campbelltown and the development of St Francis Catholic College, Edmondson Park, where a school house continues to honour his legacy.

In 2019, Unc was presented with the Deacon Boniface Award for Elders for his outstanding service to the community. He was described as a “living treasure” — a fitting recognition of a man whose impact will continue to be felt for generations.

At this time of Sorry Business, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Unc’s family, friends and the many communities who are mourning his passing. We hold them in our prayers and give thanks for the life, wisdom and service of a remarkable Elder.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. ✝

On Wednesday 29th July, John Therry had the absolute pleasure of welcoming the 38th delegation from Campbelltown’s sister city, Koshigaya, Japan! It was an incredible day of cultural exchange and friendship. Our Year 8 students stepped up as fantastic ambassadors, guiding our guests through the school and bonding over shared activities, recess, and lunch. The highlight of the day was a spectacular showcase of talent; the Koshigaya students captivated us with traditional dances, while our Junior MISA dance group, Year 9 musician Karl, and our outstanding Aboriginal dance troupe shared the best of our own culture. A truly memorable day for everyone involved!
