Glenmore State High School

From the 7th to 9th of August, 9 of our Year 12 students, Mikayla, Ayla, Nicole, Grace, Acacia, Poppy, Fatima, Abby, and Gabbie travelled with Mr Jones and Mrs Merritt to the Gold Coast to participate in the Senior Schools Cup Volleyball competition. Following months of training and preparation, our team competed in a Division 2 pool of the competition against several teams from around the state. Over the three days, our students performed valiantly against some highly experienced and talented teams. Despite this, our girls were able to remain competitive and even achieved a dominant victory on the last day of the competition!

The opportunity to participate in this competition would not have been possible without support from our sponsors, Dezign Elements and PureComm. Their generous contributions went a long way in allowing us to send our first ever Senior Schools Cup Volleyball team. Additional thanks must also go to co-coach Miss Flesser for helping our girls prepare, and Josie Merritt and Donna Davis for supporting our students and Mr Jones on the Gold Coast. Congratulations to our students for competing with great skill, the upmost determination, and unwavering positivity during the competition! Go Glenmore! 🏐🧡

Week 5 – Principal Challenge

This week, Mr Shannon has had the opportunity to look beyond the day-to-day of school life and focus on the future of Glenmore State High School.

He spent time working with state education leaders to consider the future direction of our school and how we can continue to align our priorities with the broader priorities for Queensland state schools. It was a great opportunity to think about where we are heading and, most importantly, how we can continue to provide the very best opportunities for our students.

Mr Shannon also had the chance to visit the new home of the Capras at John Crow Stadium and see the exciting developments taking place in our local community.

But the highlight of the week was spending some time with his daughters, Cydi and Lexi, at a school celebration and catching up with her Principal, Mr Taylor. As a proud Principal and a proud Dad, Mr Shannon loves the opportunity to celebrate the success of both of his daughters at Glenmore State School.

Week 5 – Principal Challenge

This week, Mr Shannon has been out and about celebrating student effort and attendance across the school.

At parade, 36 Glenmore students were recognised for achieving 100% attendance—every minute of every lesson this term. An outstanding effort! These dedicated students were rewarded with a well-earned ice cream 🍦

Mr Shannon also dropped into Year 8 Hospitality, where students were busy preparing chicken noodle soup. Hannah and Ryan impressed with their safe cooking practices, while Cooper and Scotty gave Mr Shannon a quick lesson on how to properly cut onions!

While he didn’t get to sample the final product, he’s heard on good authority that the soup was delicious. Great work, everyone!

Consistent attendance in every class truly makes the difference, ensuring students don’t miss valuable learning and giving them the best chance to succeed.

This Term, Blue Edge is officially underway!

Our biggest-ever Blue Edge cohort kicked off on Tuesday 28 July, with 28 students taking on an early morning fitness session alongside Trey from Capras Community Care. They gave it their all in the beep test, sit-ups and push-ups before enjoying a well-earned hot breakfast of bacon, sausages and eggs.

What a fantastic start - we can't wait to see what this group achieves. Stay tuned for more updates throughout the program!

Principal Challenge - Week 4
At Glenmore SHS everyone can improve our reading. This week Mr Shannon was privileged to work with staff and students in advancing our reading journey at Glenmore State High School.
