RGS powerlifting — then and now!

How special to see RGS alumni Mark Turner (RGS 2013) and current School Captain Ned Clark competing at the same Oceania Powerlifting Championships in Melbourne recently.

Mark impressed in his first-ever competition and placed for overall, while Ned represented Australia in the Under 85kg category, winning gold in his age group and finishing 5th overall with three personal best lifts.

Congratulations to both. What a fantastic RGS connection!

Leadership in Action

It was wonderful to see some familiar alumni faces back on campus last week as Year 11 students participated in the yLead leadership programme.

The programme is designed to build strong, united cohorts and inspire students to become active leaders within their school community. Adding to the experience was the return of two members of the yLead team, 2023 RGS School Captain Molly Cottam and Vice Captain Lilly Fraser, who are now helping to inspire the next generation of student leaders.

We love seeing our alumni giving back and making an impact, both at RGS and beyond.

Full Circle Moment

When RGS Alumni Alex Russell (RGS 2004) recently returned to Rockhampton for the CapriCon Pop Culture Convention, he was only too happy to pose for a photo with current RGS Year 7 student Tate Casey.

While Alex is now known for his roles in S.W.A.T., Jungle, Chronicle and Carrie, he and Tate share a unique connection. Both are recipients of the memorial trophy for Most Promising Young Male Speech & Drama Performer awarded at the Rockhampton Eisteddfod.

Meeting Alex gave Tate the opportunity to reflect on what the award means and to see where a passion for performance can lead. From one promising young performer to another, it was a special full circle moment and a wonderful reminder of the lasting connections within the RGS community.

It was wonderful to welcome alumni for a special meet and greet with Stephen Moore AM (RGS 1993-1996) during his visit to Rockhampton for the Alumni Awards Dinner over the weekend.

Congratulations to RGS alumni Alice Kallquist (RGS 2025) on signing with the Gold Coast Titans Future NRLW Academy for 2026 and 2027. Alice joins brothers Henry (RGS 2024) and Dominic (RGS 2022) in the Titans camp.

Keep Playing Sports Agency announced Alice's signing following her breakout year with the Wynnum Seagulls Harvey Norman U19s, putting together a string of impressive performances that caught the attention of Queensland U19 selectors and earned her selection in the extended Queensland Origin squad. Alice will now train regularly with the Gold Coast Titans Academy, giving her the opportunity to continue developing her game in an elite environment.

A huge step forward towards your dream of playing NRLW — and we can't wait to see where this journey takes you.
