🚨 PRINCIPAL'S WRAP – WEEK 6! 👏
Another week, another look behind the scenes with Ms Bunn as she focused on belonging, explored our Arts classrooms and connected with our students and their learning!

This week she:
🤝 Invested in her own professional learning, attending a professional development session on Belonging in Schools presented by Educational Leadership author and Professor Douglas Fisher, exploring how we can create learning environments where every student feels connected, valued and supported.

🎬 Checked out our Arts Department, visiting Year 9 and Year 11 classrooms to see what our creative Hawks are working on this term.

🎭 Joined our Year 9 Drama students as they took part in characterisation activities, getting into character and exploring how performers bring characters to life.

🎥 Heard from our Year 9 Media Arts students about the stories, projects and productions they are recording and creating this term.

🎨 Checked out our Year 9 Still Life drawings as students explored the theme of identity through their artwork.

🖨️ And chatted with a Year 11 student about their screen-printing project and the creative process behind their work this term.

From professional learning to student creativity, Ms Bunn has been busy connecting with our Hawks and seeing the amazing learning happening across North Rocky! 👏

📚🎭 CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK | 24–28 AUGUST 🎭📚
Get ready for a Symphony of Stories! 🎶📖 Join Ms Johnstone, our Head of English and resident character-dress-up enthusiast, and bring your favourite book character to life!

📅 Tuesday 25 August is our Dress-Up Day! Come to school dressed as your favourite book character and bring your book along for extra points! 📚✨

🎭 We’ll also be holding a Book Week Parade to showcase your amazing outfits, with Best Dressed awards presented on the day! 🏆

So, come one, come all and let’s make some noise for the wonderful symphony of stories that make reading so much fun! 🎶📚

🚨 PRINCIPAL'S WRAP – WEEK 5! 👏❤🩶🤍
Another week, another look behind the scenes with Ms Bunn as she celebrated culture, learning, student pathways and connections across our school and wider community!

This week she:

🌏 Shared in a Multicultural Lunch with our English as a Second Language/Dialect (EAL/D) students, sampling delicious foods from their different cultures and learning how to say hello and other cultural greetings in languages including Farsi, Urdu, Tamil and Mandarin. What a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the diversity that makes our Hawks community so special! ❤️

🫀 Joined our Year 12 Sport & Recreation students for "Staying Alive", as they renewed their CPR certification and refreshed those important lifesaving skills.

🎨 Visited 8F as they explored watercolour landscapes as part of their Arts learning this term. We love seeing our students get creative!

🤝 Stepped beyond the school gates for Principal's Business Day, joining fellow Principals alongside Deputy Director-General for State School Strategy, Stacie Hansel, and CQ Regional Director, Sue Dalton, to discuss state school strategy and the future of state education.

🎓 Finished the week celebrating connections and student pathways at the CQUniversity AVP High School Engagement Dinner, alongside Principal Lye from Mt Morgan SHS, Principal Newell from Rockhampton SHS and Ms Kim Harrington, CQUniversity Associate Vice-President Rockhampton and Central Highlands Regions.

From celebrating the cultures within our school to strengthening connections across our wider community, it's been another big week for Ms Bunn! 👏

🎓 Congratulations to our QATSIF Graduates! 🌟
A huge congratulations to our First Nations students who have graduated from the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation (QATSIF) Scholarship Program! We are incredibly proud of the commitment, resilience and dedication you have shown throughout your senior schooling journey. 🖤💛❤️💚💙🖤🤍

QATSIF provides two-year scholarship support to eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 11 and 12, helping remove financial barriers and supporting students to achieve their QCE and pursue their future goals. The program assists with educational expenses including SRS costs, senior shirts and jerseys, and school camps and excursion costs, and complements the support already provided by schools and communities.

We are so proud to celebrate this achievement with our graduates and their families. Keep reaching for the stars, Hawks! Your future is bright. 🦅✨

🍹 Shaking Up Their Skills! 🍹
Our Year 10 and 11 Hospitality students have recently completed their Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification as part of their learning this term.

To bring their training to life, our Hospitality staff created an incredible mock bar display, giving students the opportunity to identify and understand a variety of beverages in a realistic setting. Students also took part in bar service role-play, developing valuable customer service and industry skills in a hands-on learning environment.

A big congratulations to our students on achieving this important qualification, and a huge thank you to our Hospitality staff for creating such an engaging and authentic learning experience.

🏉 BIG WINNERS ARE GRINNERS… OR IN THIS CASE, CHEERERS! 📣🦅
A huge congratulations to our Year 7A Boys Rugby League side and their coach, proud Hawks alumnus, Justin Asse, on their first win in the Interschool Rugby League Competition - A Division, defeating Emmaus 26–12! 👏🔥

The boys showed incredible resilience, pride, sportsmanship and dedication to the Hawks jersey to earn this well-deserved win. They’re a shining example of the attitude and commitment we want to see from our Rugby League Academy students.

And judging by those celebrations… they weren’t just winners, they were CHEERERS! 😂📣

Well done, boys — you’ve certainly given us something to cheer about! 🦅🏉

🚨 PRINCIPAL'S WRAP – WEEK 4! 👏❤️🩶🤍
Another week, another look behind the scenes with Ms Bunn as she got musical, got scientific and got involved with our Hawks!

This week she:
🎶 Auditioned for our Instrumental Music Students Salon Session with her recorder skills — although she was only allowed to click along to The Addams Family! 🪈😂 We’re not sure a solo career is on the cards just yet...

🔬 Visited our Year 7 classrooms, chatting with students about career pathways and getting hands-on by assisting with a science experiment exploring friction.

🥣 Hung out with students at Breakfast Club as we soft launched our exciting new model — breakfast is now available every school day! Monday to Thursday students can enjoy toasties and cereal, while Fridays remain our Hot Breakfast Day, with savoury mince on the menu this week. 🍞🥣

From music and science to making sure our students start the day ready to learn, Ms Bunn has certainly been keeping busy!

⭐ Support Staff Recognition Week | 3–7 August ⭐

Behind every successful school day is an incredible team of people working tirelessly to make it all happen.

This week, we're celebrating our amazing Support Staff – our Administration Officers, IT Officers, Grounds and Facilities Officers, Business Managers, Youth Workers, Youth Support Coordinators, Community Education Counsellors, and Science Technicians.

Whether they're welcoming families, keeping our technology running, maintaining our beautiful grounds, supporting student wellbeing, managing school operations, or preparing our science labs, their dedication, care, and hard work help our school shine every single day.

They are often the first to arrive, the last to leave, and the quiet achievers behind so many of the moments that make North Rockhampton State High School a great place to learn and grow.
