πŸŒ±πŸ’š Growing Little Green Thumbs! πŸ’šπŸŒ±

Our Junior Kindy children have been busy exploring what it means to care for our environment through hands-on, meaningful experiences. 🌿

From planting herbs and preparing our garden beds to watering our plants and learning what they need to grow, our little learners are discovering that even the smallest actions can make a big difference.

These experiences help children develop an appreciation for nature while encouraging responsibility, teamwork, patience and sustainable practices that they can carry with them for life.

We are so proud of our curious, caring and environmentally conscious little learners! 🌼🌎

πŸŒˆπŸ¦•πŸ”’ Learning Through Play in Kindergarten! πŸ”’πŸ¦•πŸŒˆ

Our Kindergarten children have been welcomed with a range of engaging tabletop experiences designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning! πŸ’›

🌈 R is for Rainbow – Children are strengthening their early literacy skills by recognising the letter R, tracing the word rainbow, and using fine motor tools to place colourful pom-poms along the rainbow. This hands-on experience supports letter recognition, pencil control, colour recognition, and hand-eye coordination.

πŸ¦– Dinosaur Discovery – Our little palaeontologists have been invited to explore a prehistoric world, searching for dinosaurs hidden amongst the leaves while sharing stories, building vocabulary, and using their imaginations. This invitation encourages language development, problem-solving, and cooperative play.

πŸ”’ Number Domino Match – Children are developing their early numeracy skills by matching dominoes to the correct numbers. This activity promotes number recognition, counting, one-to-one correspondence, and mathematical thinking in a fun and interactive way.

At Parkhurst Early Learning Centre, our tabletop invitations are thoughtfully planned to encourage children to explore, investigate, and learn through play. By following children’s interests and creating meaningful learning experiences, we support confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning every day. πŸ’šβœ¨

🌿 Celebrating National Tree Day with Our Community! 🌿

A huge thank you to Rockhampton Regional Council for generously providing native plants to support local Early Childhood Education and Care services as we prepare for National Tree Day! πŸŒ±πŸ’š

Our children are excited to plant these beautiful native species, helping to create greener outdoor learning environments while learning about caring for Country, sustainability, and the important role native plants play in supporting our local wildlife. πŸ¦‹πŸπŸŒΏ

But the celebrations don’t stop there! Rockhampton Regional Council is inviting the whole community to get involved in Australia’s largest tree planting event.

🌳 National Tree Day Community Planting

πŸ“ Bill Crane Park, 222 Elphinstone Street, Koongal

Join hundreds of community members in planting 600 native trees and shrubs to help improve local biodiversity, create habitat for native wildlife, and leave a lasting legacy for future generations. Participants will also receive a native plant to take home and grow in their own garden! 🌱

There are three planting sessions to choose from:
πŸ•— 8:00 am – https://nationaltreeday.org.au/site/10031878
πŸ•˜ 9:00 am – https://nationaltreeday.org.au/site/10031879
πŸ•™ 10:00 am – https://nationaltreeday.org.au/site/10031880

β˜€οΈπŸŒŒ Senior Kindy Exploring the Solar System πŸŒŒβ˜€οΈ

Today our Senior Kindy children launched into their exploration of the Solar System by creating their very own Sun! 🌞

Using vibrant paints and a fun sensory painting technique with cling wrap, the children eagerly mixed colours, made predictions about what would happen, and discovered new textures as they created bright, fiery suns. 🎨✨

This hands-on experience encouraged creativity, fine motor development, sensory exploration, and sparked wonderful conversations about our closest star and the important role it plays in our solar system.

We can’t wait to continue our space adventure as we learn about the planets, stars, moons, and everything beyond! πŸš€πŸͺβ

🦁🌿 Roaring into Learning in Our Toddlers Room! 🌿🦁

Today our Toddlers explored the wonderful world of zoo animals through a fun and engaging lion-themed sensory experience! 🦁✨

Using colourful spaghetti to create the lion’s mane and dyed rice to make its face, the children explored a variety of textures while using tongs, scoops and their hands to investigate and manipulate the materials. This hands-on activity encouraged curiosity, fine motor development, hand-eye coordination and imaginative play as the children discovered what makes a lion so special.

Sensory experiences like these provide wonderful opportunities for children to explore with all of their senses, build confidence, develop language and strengthen problem-solving skills through play.

What a roarsome day of learning and exploration! πŸ¦πŸ’›

πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ NAIDOC Week at Parkhurst Early Learning Centre πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ€

This week our children have been immersed in meaningful experiences celebrating the rich cultures, histories and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Throughout the week, our learning environments have been thoughtfully designed to encourage curiosity, respect and connection. Children explored:

🌿 Indigenous sensory trays featuring the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags.
🎨 Symbol drawing and mark-making inspired by First Nations art.
πŸ“– Beautiful stories celebrating Country, culture and community.
πŸ”₯ Small world play with campfires, traditional shelters, native animals and storytelling.
🀲 Loose parts, playdough and sensory experiences encouraging creativity and discussion.
🎢 Music, yarning and opportunities to learn about the importance of caring for Country.

At Parkhurst ELC, we are committed to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our everyday practice, not just during NAIDOC Week. These experiences help children develop a strong sense of belonging, respect for diversity and an appreciation for the world’s oldest continuing cultures.

A huge thank you to our incredible educators for creating such engaging, respectful and meaningful learning experiences for our children. ❀️
