Nadia Fogarty, a proud Torres Strait Islander, is following her family’s legacy and fulfilling a lifelong ambition through a career in education 🌟

This year, she received the prestigious Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarship and is now studying a Bachelor of Education – Early Childhood at the University of Southern Queensland 👏

‘My father has been the biggest motivation in my decision to study teaching. He has always maintained the motto ‘education is the key to success’ and this has pushed me to achieve maximum success in all my endeavours,’ said Nadia.

‘In my future teaching journey, I want to provide my students the support and guidance that my father gave me. I want to prove that you can succeed and achieve anything with hard work and determination.’

Nadia discovered the Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarship through her sister as they discussed what makes a good scholarship.

‘It should provide financial stability and support, have future career prospects and align with my educational capabilities.’

For Nadia, The Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarship was ideal for her as it offered what she was looking for.

‘This scholarship really allowed me to prioritise a full-time study rather than a part-time worker/student.’

🎉 Congratulations, Nadia! We wish you all the best in your studies and look forward to seeing the positive impact you’ll bring to education.

She taught students from primary school to university and contributed to research work in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies, in addition to heading several organisations and representing her community at the highest levels.

The scholarship is named in her honour.
