Our Kindy Friends had one more space adventure up their sleeves to finish off Space Week! After asking for a space hunt, our Friends took turns hiding and finding space themed items, using a checklist to keep track of what was still missing. There were clues shared along the way, with our Friends pointing to different areas of the room and using words like “under”, “on top” and “inside” to help each other find the hidden items! So many excited discoveries and smiles!

Our Toddler Friends took Space Week to the moon… with a little fizzing fun along the way! With bicarb soda, vinegar and some very curious little hands, our Friends watched their moon creations bubble, fizz and erupt. Lots of busy hands and excited faces made for a fun Space Week experience!

Our Illoura community have been busy putting together boxes for Operation Christmas Child, a project run by Samaritan's Purse. Shoeboxes are filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items and little gifts to be given to children living in vulnerable situations around the world. The boxes are now making their way back to our centre ready for collection soon, with an amazing 32 boxes being donated by our Illoura community! A huge thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make this possible. It’s wonderful to see our Illoura community come together to share a little Christmas kindness.

Sometimes the simplest ideas become the best little traditions. After our Kindy Friends requested that we make one big table so we could all sit together for lunch, a new lunchtime ritual began. Our Friends have now been helping set the tables with runners, cutlery holders, plates and their name tags, enjoying the chance to find their own names and get everything ready for lunch. After the first day came the sweetest request… “Can we do this every day?” And just like that, our simple lunchtime idea became a new ritual… created by our Friends and very much enjoyed by them too!

Our Kindy Friends have been taking their safety seriously, completing their own playground checks alongside their Educators before outdoor play. Together, they created a checklist of things they think are important to check, from surface temperatures to looking out for other hazards. They then work together to decide what needs to happen next, whether our space is safe or further action is needed. Along the way, our Friends are learning to recognise safe and unsafe situations, take responsibility for their own safety, solve problems, recognise numbers and make decisions together. It’s a very important job and they are loving their new roles… Safety Squad on duty!

You can always count on the curiosity of our Friends… “What’s inside these seeds?” “Let’s find out!” After many attempts using different items from around the playground to crack them open, we eventually brought out the hammers! And just like that, hours of fun were unlocked as our Friends investigated, experimented and discovered what was inside

Our bird watching adventures continue at Illoura! Since adding a bird feeder to our playground, checking for feathered visitors has become part of our daily routine. We’ve had a few lucky sightings but today was definitely a highlight when a cockatoo landed for a little snack! Safe to say, our little bird watchers were pretty excited about this visitor!

September is Save the Koala Month, so can you guess what very special Australian animal we created in our Clay Play session? Yes, you guessed it… koalas! Our Friends got busy shaping, squishing and moulding their very own koalas, with plenty of creativity and concentration. The end result was some pretty cute koalas… even if we do say so ourselves!
