Our kindergarten children were thrilled to welcome Uncle Boomerang back to their kindy studio this week. Uncle Boomerang lead an interactive visit teaching us about a traditional Aboriginal practice of using kangaroo skins to record stories for future generations. He presented a story burnt onto the underside of a skin, featuring a giant sea turtle, and explained the symbols and painted parts of his story. The narrative highlighted the importance of protecting turtles, which are significant to his family. The children were given the opportunity to touch the kangaroo skin and examine the drawing up close. Uncle Boomerang also provided insight into the growth of a fig seed and lead the children to observe the interior of the seed pod, with the use of magnifying glasses. He then shared his knowledge and his collection of Australian fossils. The visit ended with a traditional children's game, where the kids balanced a possum skin ball on wooden ladles in a relay-style competition. It was an amazing morning spent engaging in learning about Aboriginal culture and traditions.

Today, Ditto from Bravehearts Ditto's Keep Safe Adventure Show paid a special visit to the Kindergarten children.

The session focused on teaching the children to identify and differentiate between safe and unsafe feelings, recognize their body's warning signs when feeling unsafe, and understand the importance of body ownership and asserting their right to say NO.

Ditto introduced three fundamental 'rules' that are reinforced throughout the Show:
1. We all have the right to feel safe with people.
2. It's ok to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure.
3. Nothing is so yucky that you can't tell someone about it.

Thanks for your visit Ditto.

Recently, our Kindergarten class enjoyed a special visit from Healthy Harold and his friend from Life Ed Queensland in their Kindergarten studio.
This visit focused on teaching the children important skills for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including nutrition, hygiene, physical activity, sleep, rest, and interpersonal relationships.
Our Kindy Children loved meeting Harold and learning about how he keeps healthy everyday.

This week's Intergenerational program provided an opportunity for our Kindergarten children and their Grandfriends to gather for morning tea, share stories about their week, and enjoy their favourite songs.
The Kindergarten children brought along some of their favourite, fine motor and numeracy activities to engage in with their Grandfriends, which included counting, sorting, and transferring pom poms into small bowls, feeding the monster munchers button cookies while exploring shape, size, and colour, participating in number matching puzzles, and a fishing number recognition game, as well as exploring patterning and measurement by creating long chains from coloured links.
