Congratulations to Sam Tracy, recipient of the Queensland Law Society's Access to Justice Award.

As Practice Director at Basic Rights Queensland, Sam has dedicated his career to advancing human rights, combating discrimination, and improving access to justice for vulnerable members of the community. In 2025, with pro bono partners Hall & Wilcox, the Discrimination and Human Rights team Sam leads at Basic Rights Queensland achieved important judicial review success in the Supreme Court of Queensland that reinforced local council obligations to the human rights of the homeless.

We are proud to support the Queensland Law Society Excellence in Law Awards and to celebrate legal professionals whose work creates meaningful impact in our communities.

Congratulations, Sam, on this well-deserved recognition.

What does it really take to lead a city? 🌟

Bond Business student Brianna Angus had the opportunity to find out firsthand through the City of Gold Coast CEO for a Day program.

Shadowing senior leaders, Brianna stepped inside the world of executive decision-making, business strategy and operational leadership, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at how decisions translate into real outcomes for our city.

Her biggest takeaway? Great leadership is about more than making decisions. It’s about listening, communicating clearly and staying connected to the people and purpose behind the work.

Experiences like this give our students the chance to step beyond the classroom, build confidence and gain invaluable insight into where their careers could take them.

The best learning happens when theory meets practice, and that is exactly why our construction students have been to sites across the Gold Coast recently to turn classroom learning into real life experience.

Students undertaking the Understanding Buildings subject recently visited a Coral Homes site at SkyRidge, hosted by Garry Lovett and the Coral Homes team. They explained the specifications, construction materials, and construction methodologies for three homes in different stages of construction.

Another group from the Building Pathology and Forensic Engineering subject visited a site in Palm Beach to learn about balcony design and methods to stop water pe*******on.

Experiences like this are incredibly valuable for students to have a physical example of what they learn in class explained by industry professionals.

Global perspectives are not built in the classroom alone 🌏

For seven Bond University students, almost three weeks travelling across Japan offered an opportunity to experience diplomacy, history and international engagement beyond the pages of a textbook.

Through Bond’s credit-bearing International Summitry Program, Grace Purnell, Indigo Miller, Lily Boyd, Abbey Stapleton, Eloise Sheridan, Gavril Tan, and Laura Marsh travelled through Tokyo, Kanazawa, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima and beyond, immersing themselves in the people, places and experiences that bring the study of international relations to life.

Central to the journey was the Japan English Model United Nations (JEMUN), hosted by Kindai University in Osaka. Alongside students from around the world, the Bond delegation stepped into an international diplomatic environment that challenged them to negotiate across perspectives, navigate complex global issues and build consensus through meaningful dialogue.

Their performance was recognised on the international stage, with Bond University being awarded Best Small University Delegation for the conference. Lily Boyd received a Position Paper Award, while Indigo Miller and Abbey Stapleton were recognised with a Diplomacy Award for their respective committee room.

Yet some of the most significant lessons of the journey took place beyond the conference. In Hiroshima, students visited the Peace Memorial Park, memorials and museum and had the privilege of hearing firsthand testimony from an atomic bomb survivor. It was a profound reminder that diplomacy is more than an academic discipline; it carries a responsibility to understand the past, engage thoughtfully with different perspectives and contribute to a more peaceful future.

From international negotiation in Osaka to moments of reflection in Hiroshima, the study tour demonstrated the value of education that extends beyond borders.

At Bond, we believe developing the next generation of globally minded leaders means giving students opportunities not simply to study the world, but to experience it.

Congratulations to our seven Bondies for representing the University with distinction on the global stage.

Yesterday was all about big ideas, bold thinking and a little bit of startup magic 🚀💡

We welcomed an incredible group of high school students to Bond for Startup Lab, giving them a taste of entrepreneurship through challenges, conversations, creative problem-solving and pitching.

The day also gave students a glimpse into the kind of entrepreneurial thinking we foster through Bond University Transformer's co-curricular innovation and entrepreneurship program, where ideas can be explored, tested and turned into something real.

A huge thank you to Ben Hayden-Smith and Jodie Siggers for hosting the day and bringing so much energy to the room.

To Annie Rogers thank you for generously sharing your time, experiences and insights with our students. Hearing from someone already turning ideas into action is such a valuable part of the experience.

And finally, to Grace Miller, thank you for sharing your story with us via video and adding another fantastic perspective to the day.

What does leadership look like in a world where AI is reshaping every workplace?

That was the conversation at Bond University in Brisbane last week, as we opened our new campus in the heart of the city at Level 26, 240 Queen Street with an evening of ideas, connection and ambition.

Keynote speaker Nick Abrahams, legal AI pioneer, futurist and Bond adjunct professor, shared his view on where AI is taking organisations next, and how leaders can stay ahead of the curve rather than be caught out by it.

“Bond has been leaning into this shift for a while. Around 80% of Bond subjects now formally incorporate AI into their teaching, and this September the University will launch what’s believed to be Australia’s first enterprise AI degree through the Bond Business School,” - Professor Tim Brailsford Vice Chancellor and President, Bond University.

As Bond University’s Executive Learning Director Tim Burton put it: “Our focus is on delivering practical industry relevant learning that responds to the current challenges organisations are facing”.

Bond Brisbane will be home to postgraduate programs, executive and corporate training, and a space for Brisbane business, industry, and government to connect.
