🧠 TRIVIA NIGHT 🧠
If you were here on Tuesday night for our 50th Anniversary Trivia Night, you are probably smiling at these photos, because it was a truly memorable event.

Characterised by fun, friendly competition and many laughs, about 150 alumni, parents, students, staff and community attended to put their heads together and answer questions on topics ranging from music, movies and logo recognition to Bible knowledge and school history.

The costumes were particularly impressive: the 'Let's Get Quizical' table in '80s outfits; the 'Glam-mas' in vintage attire; 'The Magnificent Seven' (with eight members); 'The Teletubbies'; 'The Suits'; 'Tassie Cuisine' (in Maccas uniforms) and 'The Salubrious Scholars'. Congratulations to The Magnificent Seven who were our trivia night champions!

A massive shoutout to quizmaster extraordinaire Kim Jansen who was in his element - sharp, witty and all class. Also to the Secondary SLC who were first to arrive and last to leave, helping the 50th Committee with set up and pack up. Thank you to all who helped make this event such a success, including Isaac Peters and organiser Elias Duff. What a blessing to be part of such a vibrant community – God is good!

🖤💛❤️ ART PRIZE 🖤💛❤️
We are so very thrilled to share with you that two of our Year 7 students were recently recognised in a national Indigenous art competition.

Archie Direen and Marcus Russell were the Tasmanian winners in the Under One Sky Art Competition, run by Interface Australia. It asked Indigenous students to respond to the question: What does home mean to me? As part of their prize, Archie and Marcus travelled to Sydney late last month to receive the award, see the sights including a footy game, and tour the sponsor's carpet factory where their artwork will be used as inspiration for a new collection. Art teacher Mrs Hope Smith, who worked closely with the students to enter the award, said the win was an enormous encouragement and recognition of the boys' talent.

"To me, home means exploring God's creation: nature, animals, trees, and enjoying the dirt. My artwork depicts kangaroos in the bush because they remind me of home. Growing up in Cygnet, I spent much of my time outdoors, playing in the dirt and exploring the bush. These memories bring me joy and inspire this work."

"To me, home means spending time in nature with my family and enjoying the moments we share together. My artwork reflects childhood memories of my mum singing the kookaburra song whenever we were driving in the car or spotted a kookaburra. Those memories make me feel connected to home."

🎸 ROCK CHALLENGE 🎸
It was loud, it was buzzing and it was the most wonderful opportunity for our students to reveal their hidden musical talents. The 2026 LCS Rock Challenge attracted a great crowd of parents and peers, cheering on our young musicians and vocalists from Primary through to Senior Secondary.

There was rock, pop, indie and acoustic tunes, originals and covers, eliciting toe-tapping, head-nodding and even some singing along.

A big thank you to the staff who brought this event together, including Mr Peter Stewart, Mr Nick Hill and Mr Andrew Swift. Thanks also to the Secondary SLC who ran the canteen.

🚀 WE HAVE LIFT-OFF 🚀
Our Year 5 students tested out their rockets recently and the results brought smiles all round. The Science Week project required students to design a rocket that can be launched into the sky using recycled bottles, water and a bike pump.

Year 5 Teacher Mr Matt Shand said students discovered that less water created more pressure in the bottle (and also more pumping!) which sent the rocket higher.

"The best designed rockets were aerodynamic and had a little extra weight at the front, like an Elsa Ooshie," he said.

Well done on your ingenuity Year 5s!

📚 BOOK WEEK PARADE 📚
The Green Sheep, Prince Caspian, Alice in Wonderland, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Three Little Pigs, Winnie the Pooh and The Rainbow Fish. These were just some of the worlds invoked when our students embraced Book Week in full costume, celebrating books and reading. On Monday, The Jubilee Centre was packed with parents who came to watch our students parade their outfits. The teachers got in on the act too, with leadership dressing to the theme of the Chronicles of Narnia, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It's also been marvellous to see Secondary students embrace the chance to participate in Book Week - because a love of reading (and imaginative play) shouldn't stop at Year 6!

Mrs Elizabeth Hanna and Dr Amy Kamphuis have gone above and beyond this year, offering all sorts of bookish opportunities including the Book Fair and Cosy Reading Night. They are dressing in a different book-themed costume every day this week, so be sure to visit the library to behold their imaginative finery.

We hope you've enjoyed seeing your children engage in Book Week this year. Be sure to continue encouraging their reading habits.

🏀 JACK JUMPERS 🏀
On Friday, our Primary School students were more than a little bit excited to meet some of the Tasmania JackJumpers basketball team. David Johnson, Taran Armstrong, Nicholas Stoddart and Josh Bannan came to the LCS gym and shared some of their professional basketball career journey before playing off against select grade teams, performing some group drills and signing merchandise.

The atmosphere was energetic and LOUD – which is always a good indication that everyone was enjoying themselves!

💙 THE OG PRINCIPAL 💙
LCS recently had the honour of welcoming the OG Principal Mr Peter van der Schoor onto campus for a tour and a chat. As part of our 50-year anniversary celebrations, we've been working behind the scenes to capture some of our school's invaluable oral history. And what treasure Mr van der Schoor brought!

Seeing him walk into classrooms and interact with our students, it was like he had never left. His ease and warmth was endearing, and he shared some incredible insights into how different school life was back when he served as the first Principal.

Mr van der Schoor recalled the excitement of the library receiving its 100th book (we now have more than 10,000!). He said the best day was when the farmer slashed the adjacent paddocks and students were allowed to play in the cut grass (and came back to class with hay fever!). He had a Primary class in giggles as he told them about the time a student had to be rescued after they tried to climb out a window and their shorts got stuck on the window winder.

Mr van der Schoor was also delighted to be taught something new himself by a four-year-old kindergarten student introducing the class pet lizard. Did you know that lizards have three eyes?

A hearty thank you to Mr van der Schoor for taking the time to visit us and give a unique perspective on our school's early days.
