When I teach vocal agility, I build it one layer at a time.

A huge milestone achieved — AMEB Grade 4 Theory!
Over the past 7 months, Allen has worked consistently through online lessons, developing the musicianship needed for this level.
Grade 4 Theory is an important milestone, serving as the prerequisite for AMEB Grade 8 Practical. This level places a strong emphasis on harmonising melodies in four-part vocal style, creative melody writing, and setting music to a given couplet, alongside scales, intervals, chords, and general musical knowledge.
This result didn’t happen overnight. It came from showing up each week, asking questions, practising consistently, and trusting the process.
Congratulations, Allen. This distinction is a well-deserved recognition of your hard work and dedication. I’m incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved.

Here’s a simple way to train breath control and rhythm at the same time.
Using one long SH or S breath, add a semiquaver rhythm in compound time and keep the airflow steady from start to finish.
This exercise helps you:
✅ Build breath control and stamina
✅ Strengthen diaphragm engagement
✅ Develop rhythmic precision
✅ Make your warm-ups more musical
Once you’ve mastered the pattern, start experimenting. Change the rhythmic groupings, vary the accents, and create your own combinations. The possibilities are endless!

Let’s explore different types of minor:
Harmonic Minor - add a raised 7th note -> B natural
Melodic Minor Ascending - add raised 6th and 7th notes -> A natural, B natural
Melodic Minor Descending - remove raised 6th and 7th notes -> returning back to the natural minor
A relative is one that shares the same key signature (in this case, Eb Major and C minor with three flats).
You can find any Minor key from its relative Major by counting down 3 semitones (using 3 letter names).
