This Refugee Week, Australia is celebrating welcoming its millionth refugee since the end of World War II.

To mark this significant milestone, Australia Post is today releasing a commemorative stamp, created in partnership with the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.

The stamp celebrates the nation’s legacy of welcoming those fleeing persecution and violence, and commemorates Australia’s welcome of a million refugees since 1947 through the refugee and humanitarian program.

Right now, 118 million people are forcibly displaced – a number which has doubled in just 12 years. Yet across the world, governments are stepping back from their humanitarian commitments. We must do everything in our power to ensure Australia continues to be a land of welcome and peace for people fleeing war and persecution.

Do you remember Andrea from our Cultural Diversity Week webinar in March? Andrea was one of the guest speakers in ‘Settlement stories – the challenges of migrating as a health professional’.

After working as a physiotherapist in Colombia for 10 years, Andrea has been working in community health across Melbourne as an Allied Health Assistant while navigating the process of requalifying as a physiotherapist in Australia.

She has achieved her dream! Last month, Andrea qualified as a physiotherapist with AHPRA and is now working as such at North Richmond Community Health.

🤩Congratulations Andrea! We know it has been a long journey and are so excited for you. 🥳
