Science Week Fun! ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ”ฌ

This week, the children explored and learned through a variety of hands-on Science Week experiences. From observing reactions to investigating how things move, mix, and change, they embraced their inner scientists!

These experiences encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and exploration as the children asked questions, shared ideas, and tested their theories. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they learned more about the world around them.

Our 17th Street Nursery children have been exploring colours and learning all about the rainbow! ๐ŸŒˆ

As part of this experience, the children created their own rainbows using a wooden block painted with rainbow colours. By pushing the block across the paper, they discovered how the colours appeared together to form a beautiful rainbow.

We have also been singing the Rainbow Song together, helping the children become familiar with the different colours through music, movement, and repetition.

This hands-on experience supported the development of the childrenโ€™s cognitive skills as they explored colour recognition and cause-and-effect, while also strengthening their fine motor skills through the pushing and grasping movements required to use the block.

Last week our 17th Street site received a special visit from our local police officers! ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿš”

The children had the opportunity to meet the officers, explore the police cars, hear the sirens and were even lucky enough to try on a police vest.

This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about the important role police officers play in helping and keeping our community safe. Through hands-on experiences and meaningful conversations, the children were able to ask questions, build confidence and develop a greater understanding of the people who support us every day.

A big thank you to our local police for taking the time to visit and create such an exciting and memorable experience for the children! ๐Ÿ’™

This term in the Kindy Room at our 17th Street Centre, we have been reading The Colour Monster and exploring the wonderful world of emotions. Through stories, discussions, and hands-on experiences, children have been learning that all feelings are important and discovering ways to support themselves and others when different emotions arise.

To bring the story to life, the children enjoyed sorting colourful loose parts into matching coloured jars, just like in the book. This engaging activity helped them connect colours with different emotions while encouraging conversation and critical thinking.

The children also painted their own Colour Monsters and shared their ideas about the feelings represented by each colour, as well as why they thought their monsters might be feeling that way. These experiences have been a fantastic way to build emotional awareness, empathy, communication skills, and meaningful conversations about feelings.

๐ŸŒโœจ Our Cultural Wall is Growing! โœจ๐ŸŒ

In the toddler room, weโ€™ve been busy updating our Cultural Wall! The children used their handprints to create flags representing the diverse cultural backgrounds of the families in our room.

This special project celebrates the uniqueness of each child and family while helping children develop a sense of belonging, identity, and respect for different cultures. We love seeing our community reflected on the wall and learning more about the many cultures that make our room so special. โค๏ธ๐Ÿคฒ
