It was great to connect with the Riverland community at the Riverland Field Days recently.
We welcomed school students, families and community members to our stand to talk about the study opportunities available through Flinders – in the Riverland, at Bedford Park and at our City campuses.
There was plenty of interest in health and medicine, including from people keen to find out more about studying medicine through the SA Rural Medical Program.
Our student ambassadors Emily, Lucy and Karl shared their experiences of studying at Flinders and helped run activities for visiting school students. The anatomical torso and removable organs proved a popular hands-on activity, with plenty of students keen to test their knowledge!
A big thank you to Emily, Lucy, Karl and lecturer Ben for giving their time and helping make it such a great couple of days.

R U OK? Day was marked across our Flinders Rural and Remote Health campuses, with students taking the opportunity to connect, check in with each other and highlight the importance of looking out for one another.

While R U OK? Day provides a reminder, meaningful conversations about mental health and wellbeing should happen throughout the year. It’s about trusting your instincts, reaching out when someone may be struggling and not waiting for the “right moment” to ask, “Are you OK?”

A big thank you to Jamie Scroop and the Oasis Student Wellbeing Centre for providing a wonderful morning tea for our Rural and Remote Health students across the Flinders rural footprint.

It's never too late to celabrate 50 years of NAIDOC. The wonderful piece attached was put together by Talia Scriven, our RRHSA Associate Lecturer Rural and Remote Aboriginal Health, highlighting the events and activities that were held around Murray Bridge during NAIDOC week.

It was a busy day at Berri Primary School this week as Flinders University SARM Year 2 medical students brought their Teddy Bear Hospital to the school.
The students became doctors and the children became “junior doctors”, helping to examine their much-loved teddies and soft toys.
There were heartbeats to listen to, ears to check with an auriscope, and plenty of teddy limbs needing careful bandaging!
But Teddy Bear Hospital is about more than fun. It gives our medical students a chance to build their communication skills and practise working with young patients, while helping children become more familiar and comfortable with healthcare settings and medical equipment.
Seeing the awe and excitement amongst the children makes you realise just how much of an impact these experiences can have.
After a successful check-up, every teddy received a clean bill of health and each child went home with a certificate to celebrate their junior doctor experience.
A wonderful day of learning, laughter and connection in the Riverland!

We need to get our Flinders winning team in there to win the R2R cup

🏆 Join us for the inaugural R2R Medicine Cup!

This fast-paced, fun and practical event is for medical students to find out about rural medicine.

Students will compete in teams through emergency-focussed clinical simulation stations based on common and unusual presentations seen in rural general practice and rural emergency medicine.

Stations will be facilitated by Rural Generalists, with points tallied across the day.

Who will take home the inaugural R2R Medicine Cup - Adelaide University or Flinders University?

Open to:
✅ 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate medical students
✅ 1st or 2nd year postgraduate medical students (Flinders University only)

Get your team together! Spots are limited to 24 students per university.

Find Your Place in Health at Flinders Riverland Open Night at Flinders Renmark Campus
If you or someone you know is considering a career in Nursing, Allied Health or Medicine, the Flinders Riverland Open Night offers an opportunity to explore your options and discover what studying locally can provide.
Prospective students and their families can meet academics, speak with current students, and connect with recruitment staff to gain practical insights into courses, pathways and career opportunities.
Studying health in the Riverland is about more than earning a qualification. It means training in a regional community, learning alongside local health professionals, and contributing to a workforce that supports the future of healthcare in the region.
The evening will include dedicated information sessions:
• 6.00pm – 7.00pm: Nursing
• 7.00pm – 8.00pm: Allied Health
• 7.30pm – 8.30pm: Health and Medicine
Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak with members of Yungkurrinthi, who provide support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students throughout their university journey.
