🍞 From Learning a Skill to Building a Business! 💙

Meet Sathia, a VLC student who has turned a new passion for French sourdough bread into a thriving little business! 👏

After learning how to make sourdough bread from scratch from his parents, Sathia decided to put his new skills into practice by selling his homemade loaves to family and friends.

What started with a goal of just 10 loaves per month has grown significantly — Sathia is now selling around 7 loaves every week, with customers coming back and requesting fresh bread each week! 🥖

Along the way, Sathia has developed valuable real-world skills, including:
✨ Setting up and managing a small business
✨ Organising and managing customer orders
✨ Communicating with customers
✨ Calculating costs and understanding pricing
✨ Following food hygiene requirements
✨ Saving and reinvesting money to upgrade equipment

Sathia's sourdough journey is a wonderful example of how learning can extend far beyond the classroom. Through his own initiative and entrepreneurial spirit, he is developing practical skills, confidence and an understanding of what it takes to turn an idea into a successful small business. 🌟

We can't wait to see where this delicious little business takes him next! 🍞💙

🏀 From Volunteer to Coach: Jarvis Gives Back to Basketball

What started as a volunteering opportunity has grown into an incredible coaching journey for Hillcrest VLC student Jarvis! 👏🏀

Jarvis has continued volunteering with the Monday QHoops program and has now stepped into the role of one of two Head Coaches for the program this term.

His coaching journey has continued to grow, with Gold Coast Basketball inviting Jarvis to coach their Saturday morning Ford Aussie Hoops program, working with children aged 5–10. He has also coached school holiday programs, gaining valuable experience inspiring the next generation of young basketballers.

And recently brought his most exciting opportunity yet…

⭐ Jarvis was selected as a coach for the Steven Adams Camp!

The first Gold Coast Steven Adams Camp brought together 400 children for a huge day of basketball, coaching and fun. Being selected as a coach was a fantastic opportunity for Jarvis to step outside his own playing commitments and contribute to the basketball community.

His patient, encouraging and fun personality has made him a wonderful youth coach, and it's fantastic to see him using his passion for basketball to give back and inspire younger players.

We are incredibly proud of Jarvis and the way he is developing as a leader both on and off the court. 🏀💙
